Taxing teams draft picks who lose a certain amount of games in consecutive seasons. It would certainly help prevent the bullshit teardown trend of the last few years. I think he's a little flippant about the affect a salary floor would have but this is certainly an interesting idea. Maybe they can incorporate a salary floor and a tax. If a team spends under a certain amount they get hit harder. Either way this is the stuff that idiot Manfred should be worrying about and not some stupid fucking pitch clock. https://www.baseballamerica.com/columni ... TsgULax.97 |

I think allowing teams to trade draft picks for players would alleviate most of the tanking. |

They don’t allow draft picks to be traded because then agents would steer their clients to the teams they want them to sign with. Baseball players have enough leverage in the draft already. They don’t need anymore. I don’t think trading draft picks would prevent tanking it would just incentivize it even more. |

Do it like the EPL and demote teams that aren’t able or willing to field professional rosters. |

Relegation is the answer to tanking. Since a second tier league will never happen, then there has to be some other substantial penalty to the last two teams in each league. Loss of MLBAM money, loss of a first round pick, imposition of a salary floor for those teams, something. To be fair to teams in different parts of the planning cycle, however, those penalties should not go into effect until after the 2022 season. |

for a second i opened up this thread dreading some new tax if i ever wanted to buy a tank (following in the footsteps of the KLF and aphex twin, in that order) but PHEW it's just some baseball shit. yeah, don't suck out loud cuz you know that baseball draft is totally NBA like. yeah. you dont wanna have a low pick so you miss out on a no doubt #1 pick like bryce harper and end up with some bum like mike trout at #25. |

Jerry Dipoto on the idea of rebuilding: "You could find yourself competing with more teams for the #1 pick than you would for the World Series." Here's my list of teams trying to win, trying to tank and not sure what the fuck they're doing. Still more teams trying to win but barely. Damn Teams competing for the WS: 1. NY Yankees 2. Boston 3. Cleveland 4. Houston 5. LA Angels 6. Washington 7. Cubs 8. Milwaukee 9. St Louis 10. LA Dodgers 11. Arizona 12. Colorado Teams competing for the #1 pick: 1. Tampa Bay 2. White Sox 3. Detroit 4. Kansas City (could be moved to the middle if they resign Hosmer or Moose) 5. Oakland 6. Philadelphia 7. Atlanta 8. Florida 9. New York Mets 10. Cincinnati 11. San Diego Teams in the middle: 1. Baltimore 2. Toronto 3. Minnesota (could get moved to trying to win if they sign a big FA) 4. Seattle 5. Texas 6. Pittsburgh 7. San Francisco |

Pitts needs to be moved to the teams competing for 1st round pick. Giants need to be moved to teams competing for WS. |

Agree. The White Sox should be moved to the middle too. I am 99% sure the Sox will not make the playoffs, but I am 100% sure they will win too many games to pick #1 Minnesota is a winner as well. They played in the Wild Card last year. |

Abolish the draft and base salary caps for amatuers on cost per win over a four year period. Best cost per win gets the most cap space. |

Agreed I feel like I'm on crazy pills when people think the Sox will be dogshit-awful. I just don't see it. They're in the lower level of the middle teams, but middle seems appropriate. |

The Players Association issued a statement saying "the race to the bottom is threatening the integrity of the game." Duh. Too many teams trying to lose and not enough trying to win. Trying is the new market inefficiency. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/2234 ... ace-bottom |
