Looks like Buck Showalter will get the boot. Hard to believe he's only 62. He's been managing since the early 90s. I always viewed him as some old-ass legacy managaer, like Jack Mckeon or some shit. Was surprised he hung around with the orioles for so long. But he made a difference. He wasn't just hanging out. He had that team competing pretty good for 3 or 4 years, and even made the playoffs. Too bad one terrible year cost him his job. At 62 he is still young enough to find another job but I wonder if anybody would hire him. Probably will end up on some rebuilding small market team if he manages again. somebody create and post a pic of Showalter with a big red 'X' stamped over his face. |

Doubt he gets another manager job, everybody wants bilingual guys who use differential equations and linear algebra in creating their lineups while wearing furry costumes. Showalter trying to get tossed from tonight's game against the Red Sox. Arguing balls and strikes from the dugout. |

I suspect that he will look for a senior advisor to the President role in an American League operation. Something where he can still live at home all year but just come to Spring Training, a few of the longer homestands, and some scouting of potential playoff opponents. |

Showalter is too much of a meddler and a control freak for a vice-president-of-looking-out-the-window job, but now that MBAs only want pod people who exclusively follow the directions of the MBAs, there's not a place for him in the dugouts anymore, either. He'll either do TV again or retire. I'm sure the YES Network is looking for a ninth color commentator. |
