It never did. Kenny and Hahn are two of the worst FO executives in professional sports. That's the only reason he's not on the White Sox anymore.

I’m guessing they figured he was gonna bail by the time the team was good enough to win anyway so deal him and get prospects while you can .

Sox would only offer him 60% of that contract anyways. They can’t sign anyone. They are one of three teams to never hand out a $100M contract.

Yea, I guess but they had 3 years to change his mind or at least SELL :P him on the rebuild.

Came down to Sale vs Kenny and the Sox chose Kenny. They deserve to miss the playoffs every year for eternity for that ridiculously stupid choice.

Hindsight is always 20/20.

But really, the only way it would have made sense if the Sox knew for sure he would not resign with them. At that point, you make the trade.

Now, its possible Moncada turns into an All Star and Kopech wins a Cy Young or two, but yeah right now this seems like a trade thats only made in a video game.

I dont even know if that's true.

3 years left, you could roll dice on changing his mind and if he stays healthy, the trade value would be there the next year.

I know he was a first round pick and expected to be good but they really struck gold with picking him.

Incidentally, that draft was loaded. (Nice Hayden Simpson pick Hendry, you fuckin dick!)

He wasn't going to bail if you paid him. The Sox are just fucking stupid. You trade the best pitcher in baseball for a pig in a poke.

I agree about the pig in a poke part, but they weren't winning with him, and they tried to for several years. The trade was a worthy gamble when they made it, but it looks like it's come up snake eyes.

I get it. But you could have rebuilt with him as your centerpiece. Hell, you got less for him than you got for Eaton and Quintana anyway.

I don’t get it. What’s there to get? The reasoning for trading Sale necessarily dictates you get rid of Kenny and Hahn. There’s no justification for that trade that involves retaining them. I barely know shit about baseball but that’s so glaring even I understand it.

I fucking hate rooting for this team currently.

I'm not defending Hahn/Williams/Reinsdorf, but what they did is the new model. The main problem being that you must acquire the right players. And it almost never works. The Cubs are an outlier in a sea of failure. When you make that trade for that 18 year old stud you imagine Mickey Mantle or Juan Marichal. What you get is almost never as good as Ryan Theriot or Scott Schoeneweis. To think Michael Kopech could be as good as Chris Sale is a fucking pipedream.

Losing on purpose should be addressed in the next CBA. It has to be lest the game deteriorate even more.

I agree with you but this isn’t about the new or old model to me. Regardless of what approach you take, you simply cannot let the same management team that wasted Chris Sale be in charge of then trading Sale and being in charge of the rebuild.

That's a fair point. I guess Hahn defenders would argue about when exactly he took charge. Me, I question whether he's in charge at all.

It’s like the Casino scene to me. Either Hahn was in on it or he was too incompetent to stop it. Either way, not a guy I want overseeing things.
