One person left Jeter off the ballot .

Good for Larry. Jeter was going to need comic relief for his naturnatural induction.

If Jeter was an outfielder, no. Walker did a lot of his most productive hitting in Denver.

It's the price he pays for the undeserved gold gloves.

He probably nailed the daughter of the baseball writer and ran out of gift bags .

Its amazing how many idiots on Twitter are arguing that he shouldn't be a hall of famer because he didn't have the defensive metrics to support it. Jeter was a playoff legend and should have been unanimous.

Far superior players weren't unanimous, it doesn't bother me one bit that Jeter wasn't.

I was surprised to see that Walker had a higher OPS+ (adjusted for park factors) than both ARod and Griffey Jr.

That Rivera is the only unanimous guy is offensive.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_m ... ll_of_Fame

Rickey Henderson 94.81%
Sandy Koufax 86.87%
Jackie Robinson 77.5%
Mickey Mantle 88.22%
Roberto Clemente 92.69%
Joe DiMaggio 88.84%
Bob Gibson 84.04%
the actual Cy Young himself 76.12%

Hank Aaron is at 97.83% which could be far more egregious, all things considered, but still, that's like two or three people who thought Hank Aaron didn't belong in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Yeah, you either are or you aren't. Why did Mike Mussina have to wait so long? What did we need to figure out that we didn't know already?

NO ONE agrees with the bullshit unwritten rule that no one should be a first ballot unanimous selection outside of the actual baseball writers themselves. Its a simple binary decision. Almost every one of those names you listed should have been 100%.

Baseball’s oddities, while frustrating, are part of what makes it great and worthy of endless debates.

to me, if it wasn't obvious you should be in when your name is brought up, you shouldn't be in

however there is nothing more mind numbing to me than hall of fame talk. who cares either way. I will be going to cooperstown in july

dispshits like Bernstein have now taken to the extreme of considering Jeter a BAD defender, which he most certainly was not. This is particularly offensive because Dan saw him and knows better. He just enjoys being in the iconoclast group

I get it, but once you're in you're in. When they sign autographs and put "HOF" underneath, do they ever indicate how many years it took them to be voted in, or write '1st ballot HOF'? Not that I've ever heard of.

I agree with that on the surface, but it's kind of nice to have some kind of hierarchy that separates Jeter and Maddux from Dawson and Blyleven.

You don't think so? I'd certainly put him in before Baines and Dawson. It's not like he's purely a product of Colorado. He was good in Montreal and in St. Louis at the end of his career. If you think he was a juicer (I do), that's a different issue. My take is that Walker is there on the numbers but why do he and Piazza get in while Bonds and Clemens are kept out? The answer seems to be that the latter two guys are assholes.

He was a good ballplayer before he got to Colorado but he wasn't great. I'm always concerned about a guy who played during the steroid era and had some steroid power years getting in when he doesn't hit 400 home runs. Plus a guy doesn't go from .270 and 18 HR to .370 and 50 HR in a season without some help. A .313 average, 380 HR and 2000 hits doesn't scream HoFer to me in that era unless you're a catcher or a middle infielder.

I give a shit about the HOF ever since they ruled Rose out. Talk about hypocrites. Like baseball is somehow sanctimonious. What a joke. They've got some bad people in the HOFs in all sports.

Larry Walker doesn't strike me as HoFer...and yeah, jumping to 49 HRs in 1997 is peculiar. He was very good, but I'm just not thinking hall of fame. His most impressive stat is career OBP of .400...that's pretty damn good for 17 years in MLB.

He was a great player but when you think of him you don't think HoFer. I guess not being an asshole has some perks. I believe he used. Based on his power numbers it looks like he would abuse every other year.
