Saw the preview today - going to air in June - about the 61 chase between mcgwire and sosa.

first time these 2 have spoken out. i wonder if they will address steroids.

It will probably be a pretty stark portrayal of Sosa, whose accomplishments pale in comparison to the magnitude of McGwire's.

Mcguire just started juicing long before Sosa.

Big Mac was always injured and Sosa has better numbers that him. Boo ya

Sosa edges Mark over the course of their careers as a better player.

Sosa still doesn't understand the damage he and McGwire did to the game with that phony home run chase. He still believes they "saved baseball".

I wonder which was worse, the Sosa/McGwire race or adding replay. Tough call.

I didn't mean a damn word of what I typed above. I gamed my words to insert two puns regarding Sosa's weirdly-bleached skin. Thought someone would catch that and play along!

Replay is just fucking brutal. Here's a good piece that just touches on it a little bit:

And neither of them seem to respect themselves at any turn.

They both are scum and as much as I hate Sosa, I hate McGwire more because he came from a very privileged upbringing and was taught better than he exhibited in career. Sosa was pretty much a dummy. I coached with a guy who played with Sosa in the DR and also for a brief time with the Cubs and he said that it was widely known that Sosa and others were "juicing" while they were playing winter ball. One story that he had was that Sosa left $10K under a towel at a resort swimming pool and the money got stolen. Sosa reported the "theft" and the police asked him what the money was "for" and Sosa couldn't give them a reason. Of course the "case" was dropped. :drunken: :drunken: :drunken:

You know, if we're going to get nothing but, homeruns, walks, and strikeouts, I would like to see guys hitting 60+ homeruns again.

'Juiced Ball' is just a name they made up for what's really been going on in baseball the last 3 years. In 15 years we'll find out what the guys today are doing.

Replay. The steroids were bad, but fell within a tradition of drug abuse in sports. Replay fundamentally changes the game.

Here's a stat that tells you how fucked up baseball is right now. C.C. Sabathia's highest K/9 rate came in 2019.

The steroid era was great. Like CH said, every era in baseball is some drug infused era, baseball purists acting like steroids all of a sudden crossed a line is laughable.

It will be interesting to see how they handle the fact that Sosa was basically disowned by the Cubs and fans.

That's interesting. I think most fans still like him and would give him an ovation. The diehards that post here might not. But I think the casual fan still love him and his act.

Since he’s matured and changed his colors, Cubs fans and especially the Ricketts are glad he’s on the white side.

i dont have much interest in this. they conned us, we should have known but ignored the backstory because on it's face it was a lot of fun to watch... but now that it was officially a giant farce i dont want to be reminded of it

I don't think most Cubs fans like him and the Ricketts seem to really not like him.
