Has to be May doesnt it? Surely there will be packed and unmasked crowds in the stands then. |

Maybe not that late but wouldn't surprise me. |

If that is the case then they are asking to have another situation where they drive people away from the game. |

I have to assume that the players are once again sticking to the idea that even if no fans are in attendance they should get the same paycheck. They have that right but the owners then have the right to play far less games to lose less money. |

There is zero reason to have empty stadiums. Zero. Capacity at 10%, 20%, 40%, masks, no masks, whatever. People that want to abide with the distancing and mask rules that are likely to be in place should have the option to do so at ALL MLB stadiums this season. Saying "no fans" is gutless and way more harmful than the 0.003% risk you run at catching Covid at a ballgame would be. |

I think you would be at a much higher risk of injury or death by sitting down near the front row along the baseline with no net than you would at contracting Covid with a stadium at 20% capacity. |

I agree with you but it seems like stadiums having fans is last on the list to get back everywhere. California forced the Rose Bowl to be played in Texas because they wouldn't let players families be in the stands. |

Brick wrote: I agree with you but it seems like stadiums having fans is last on the list to get back everywhere. That's not true, because there are MANY stadiums that are allowing at least some fans to attend. Even the LCS and World Series in October had some fans. About half of the NFL teams had some fans as well.Full attendance, yes is going to be last or very near last on the list. Partial attendance can and should be done right now. |

California, New York, and Illinois have 9 teams. They are all unlikely to have fans in attendance at the normal start of the season. I would guess there are other states that would also not allow it. Places like Texas and Florida will have fans though. It wouldn't surprise me if half the teams can't have fans for a while. |

It wouldn't surprise me either, but there is zero reason for it. Especially for football since those buildings are huge. A smaller park like Wrigley could present some challenges but even then you can't tell me that allowing 6,000 stupid Cubs fans in to watch the game is unsafe. |

Or as we like to say, double the amount that watch the Sox. |

I think the owners also see it as an opportunity to skip the low attendance month of April while also not having to pay the players. Nightengale also quoted the owner as saying there is a zero percent chance spring training and opening day start on time so a reduced season isn't speculation, but a certainty. It would suck to be a FA this year. There is a very real possibility you wouldn't see a true market rate contract for two years. |
