that springer contract seems outrageously high for his skills and age

Agree, especially in light of the new economics of baseball.

11-1 was historic. We may not see that again in our lifetimes.

I'm good with a 3-1 Division Series win, 4-2 ALCS Win, and 4-1 World Series win.

How many good years do you think Springer gives em?

The White Sox spending money makes sense. They have a legit shot especially with so many other teams doing nothing. They have a huge window and a relatively modest payroll. I would be more concerned about the Padres taking on payroll, but it still makes some sense.

The Mets make sense with a billionaire that does not care about the money.

But for most other teams, I would not want to lump on long term commitments right now.

Im confident the luxury tax will be gone in the next collectively bargained contract, I just think Springer has 2 average years before he falls off a cliff..terrible contract.

I think the owners like the payroll tax as a de facto payroll cap. The players are going to get taken to the woodshed because of Covid. Just my initial take. Owners will push for a cap linked to revenues and fall back on the existing payroll tax. I cannot see how owners give an inch.

I would love to see a salary cap and a salary floor- which might be more necessary than a cap- in MLB.

He should give them two very good years in CF, two good years in RF, and two 2019 Jon Lester years at DH.

But the signing is very much like the Cubs paying Lester. Toronto needs veteran leadership and when they did not get DJLM, they really needed Springer.

The guy who is fucked is Realmuto. His market has dried up unless Washington jumps in with a big number. LA doesn't need a catcher, and the Yankees are more likely to trade for Contreras than spend big on a long term deal for a catcher that will prevent them from going for Trevor Story next year.

To what extent does being a stud in the playoffs (and I know Springer has been more than solid in the regular season) get you more money? Serious question--I really have no idea.
