Yikes. Sad end to his career, and to an all time terrible contract.

Why? I don't follow his career or the Angels whatsoever, but I thought I was watching SC the other day and they were talking about the #'s he was putting up this year. I may have been hallucinating.

I have not paid attention at all to the Angels. Has he really been that bad that they just cut him?

Wow

Might be the worst contract ever, and the smartest decision ever (by the Cardinals) not to re-sign him:

11 seasons with St. Louis: averaged 7.6 WAR
10 seasons with LA: averaged 1.2 WAR

According to source, #Angels slugger Albert Pujols was upset that he wasn't in lineup to face #Rays LHP Ryan Yarbrough last night, and that the decision to bench him came from front office, not MGR Joe Maddon. Pujols was 6 for 9 with 2 HR, 2 2Bs, 7 RBIs vs. Yarbrough.

I don't think Maddon would either, insubordination is grounds for dismissal and I am sure he wouldn't get the entire amount for sure and maybe not any.

Are managerial contracts are written to that effect, where insubordination includes refusing to change a lineup at the GM's request?

I don't know any job that insubordination isn't dealt with sternly.

Maybe for somebody like Ross, Ventura, or Alex Cora.

I can't see how somebody like Joe Maddon or Terry Francona would ever agree to that.

TLR is on the phone w/ him right now. He'd make a big splash and get yesterday off the sports pages.

Im guessing at worst, he gets a sizable chunk if not all of it. Besides that , Joe couldve pointed to baseball reasons why Pujols shouldve played against that pitcher citing his numbers against him. Im not going to sit here and beat the poor Albert drum but it seems like thats an odd place for Angels management to draw a line after years of middling production . Whats one more game. . Let him play against that guy whom he's owned, THEN DFA him.

How is Manny Machado doing?

Ex genius millionaire players crying about how their millionaire buddy Albert Pujols was "abused' by the Angels. These guys have made a lot of dough, and are all out of touch with reality. Can't make this stuff up. Sick or sickening? Great comedy.

MLB salaries (million)
Albert Pujols- 344
Pedro Martinez- 146
David Ortiz- 159

Since joining the Padres, 1.1 less WAR and .023 less OPS than Tim Anderson over the same timeframe.

As it turns out, Machado's demand wasn't to play short, it was to earn at least 6 more million a year. So theoretically, Moncada would be at 2nd, McCann would be catching because Grandal wouldn't be signed.

McCann is hitting .210 and Madrigal all of a sudden became a solid big leaguer 3 weeks ago. Machado tore it up pretty good last year and might have saved Ricky's job.

As of this printing, Machado was a really good non-signing, although we'd probably still be in 1st place

I'd be thrilled with McCann's .210 average.....he earned that right with his defense and his handling of pitchers. Grandal needs to be dealt.
