Sounds like the Mets are going after Brewers GM Matt Arnold to be their next President of Baseball. Can't get Stearns, I guess you go after his next in charge. |

So Matt Arnold withdrew his name, that seems really weird. It makes you wonder what is really going on with that Mets organization, what a shit show. |

Yeah, he's probably leaving $30+ million on the table. He batted .304/.390/.499 this year and is only 34 years old. Couldn't he have moved to 1B if his body couldn't take the catching anymore? |

Castellanos opts out and JBJ (can't be worse) accepts the player option with the Brewers. |

Service time will obviously be reduced or there will be a strike. |

denisdman wrote: So what are the predictions on the labor agreement, which expires 12/1? Long lockout. They will eventually get a ten-year CBA but with a mutated spring training and a 99 game season. Financial changes: - salary floor rolled in over five years, luxury tax stays the same but with minimum 5% annual inflation - ending local TV/streaming blackouts by 2028 or requiring more revenue sharing from teams who don't renegotiate - getting rid of the third year of arbitration for all players not yet on a 40 man, and after the 2023 season for everyone else. Structural changes: - universal DH - a framework to go to 32 teams and Eastern/Western conferences by 2028, under the cover of reducing player travel, but really to goose TV deals in both regular season and playoffs and let Oakland and Tampa move without geographic issues. - a cut of 8 games in the regular season when they go to 32 teams, to be replaced with playoff games - increase from 40 to 43 man roster, but the extra three slots are reserved for under-23 players with less than a year of service time - ending the endless AAA shuttle for pitchers somehow |

It seemed that the universal DH was something that the union wanted, as the salaries would be higher for the position. But now I think the owners want it just as much to prevent injuries to their expensive pitchers. Philosophical question: should NL pitchers take a small pay cut if they no longer have to bat? |

Service time and the competitive balance tax seem to be the main issues. |

I doubt they will have an agreement by the scheduled date for pitchers and catchers to report. |

So your previous and next day's starting pitcher and a 3rd catcher are likely inactive among two others. This also allows for somebody who is banged up with a minor injury to sit for a few days. Thus you can go back to a 15-Day IL except for concussion protocol. |

I don't see how not batting would affect their pay. It will be their higher ERA that hurts them. |

I know, and it seemed like an absurd question to ask, but I'm sure almost all pitchers are happy not to bat, so in theory they should give up something in exchange for not having to hit. I guess it would be like if wide receivers had to return punts, but then they created a dedicated roster spot for a returner, so the WR only had to play on offense. His value as WR didn't change, but he would be doing less work. |
