Astros are a wagon. It’s a shame we’re forced to question all of their accomplishments in perpetuity given their egregious cheating. Otherwise they’re a fun team to watch..save for the likely cheating. |

My son, a contrarian by nature, is cheering for Houston while we are surrounded by Phillies fans. His reasoning, one of his least favorite teachers only calls on kids wearing Philly stuff. I told him that the Astros have been caught cheating in the past and his response "Well they better keep cheating this series."

NBA being taken over by Euros--will there ever be another American born NBA MVP? Hockey owned by Kanaydians and northern Euros/Russians. Latin Americans and Japanese own baseball. Korean women rule the LPGA. All we have as American dominated sports is tackle football, pickleball and fowling now. |

Dusty is pretty much saying members of his Astros team are in MLB by privilege only. Taking away roster spots from more deserving people. I'd ask him who on the Astros is a privileged player who should be replaced? |

Isn't part of this a combination of the space needed to play baseball in urban areas combined with the fact that NCAA baseball scholarship levels are shit compared to basketball or football? Basketball and football may not be your ticket to 8/320, but it's still a path towards a free college education and if you aren't a fuck up, a solid post-graduate job. Would a three sport star Black athlete like Dave Winfield even consider baseball if he was 12 today? |

We did a lot of travel baseball. Only once did we encounter a black team. Even when we went to Louisville, all the best teams were white with a few Hispanics. The one time we played a black team, there was a massive difference in skill levels. We were playing/practicing about nine months out of the year, and that team looked like a spring in house team. Baseball can be expensive and time consuming. I estimate that only 5% of boys have both the desire (read interest) and skill necessary to play at a reasonably high level. |

You need too many people to play neighborhood baseball. With neighbors not really interacting with one another anymore due to the internet, I wouldn't be surprised if a factor driving down youth interest in baseball is they simply don't have a critical mass of players in one shared space to get a game going. Much easier to get a good game of basketball or football in - fewer players required and less equipment as well ($). |
