MINNEAPOLIS -- Terry Ryan's tenure as general manager of the Minnesota Twins is coming to an end.

The 53-year-old Ryan is resigning after 12 seasons. The Minneapolis Star Tribune, citing three unnamed sources with the team, first reported the story on its Web site. The Twins have called a news conference for Thursday afternoon to announce a "major" reorganization of their baseball operations.

Shit that would be a perfect hire for the Sox. They could get someone who understands how to build an organization from top to bottom. In my opinion he is among the very best GM's in the league.

Can you imagine him running a team that has a real payroll?

Haven't we learned anything from the Andy McFail experiment?

One of the Twins players was quoted as saying if he had the Yankees payroll he would win the World Series every year. Some of the trades he pulled off were so one-sided it is crazy. Granted they were only prospects at the time but hey. He got Johan Santana from the Marlins I think for some guy that never panned out and the one that wowed me was AJ Pierzynski to SF for Joe Nathan, Boof Bonser and Franciso Liriano. Now that was a trade!

It is not even so much his trades and drafting. The guy has a plan for the way to play baseball, and that plan is followed from the MLB level all the way down to A ball. I cannot tell you how many times the Twins have experienced a significant injury, only to plug in a nondescript AAA player who comes in and gets the job done. Their players simply do not make mistakes. They hang with their opponent until he makes the mistake.

The strength of the team has always been its bullpen. They seem to be a lockdown group from the 6th inning on for the last decade. This makes their starters all the better because they only have to throw a few innings.
