There is a disgusting infestation of gnats or something in this Yankee/Indian game.

That's damn near enough to have a bug delay in my book. There's 50 bugs on the pitcher's face for each pitch.

On the other hand, this could be good news for the Cubs. When signs of the apocalypse start appearing during the baseball playoffs, maybe the Cubs are destined to win the Series and usher in the End of Days (or whatever it is called). Piniella might have some trouble loosening the seventh seal though.

I watched the game last night with the sound off. Who is the hilljack in the the booth (not Brenly)?

This could be a huge marketing campaign for HD TV. "Look, the bugs seem like they are coming right at you! Are they at the game or are they on your screen?

Games like this are why baseball is my favorite game.

Last night they were playing Pachinko. Tonight, runs were harder to find than virgins at "Kids R Us."

The last six innings were a tightrope for both teams. Margin for error: none. Injuns stranding men left and right, yup. Yanks pitchers tossing incredible trash to the plate to end the inning, yup. Over and over and over. No one can take a lead, Injuns tie late to go to extras.

I'm sorry. These days post season pitching duels are so rare, it is like seeing a no hitter. This was probably the best game to be played this October. (Sorry StoneRoses, I am not a Yankee hater, just enjoy good baseball.)

It was, indeed, a classic game, and congratulations must be given to the Cleveland Indians. The long term importance of this particular game, however, will ultimately dwarf the short term result. To wit;

1. I was incorrect about Mr. Rodriguez. He is, and shall forever remain, a non-entity in the post season. Much like Mr. Claude Rains, he has ingested copious amounts of monocane, rendering him invisible to his fans. However, the monocane has rendered the rest of us insane, rather than he who consumed it. This is unacceptable, and I say good riddance to bad rubbish.

2. Mr. Joseph Paul Torre, though seemingly a fine gentleman, should not survive another first round humiliation. After all, the glorious New York Yankees (and, yes, they remain glorious) are not the Chicago National League Ballclub. Its fans do not celebrate "winning" the Wild Card or, for that matter, poor Divisions. Grazie mille, Signore Giusseppe. Ciao.

I very much look forward to seeing if Mr. Steinbrenner's next Manager will be capable of advancing beyond the Divisional Series.

Mustang Rob, please let me know where I might direct your premium Tequila.

Feel free to send him over to our Cubs. Post seasons are so rare, we have taken to blaming ourselves (the fans) for expecting too much out of our players in the post season (see Dawson, 1989; Sosa, 1998; and pretty much damn near everyone this year). If he can hit .200 in a playoff series, he can get himself a statue outside Wrigley.

George Steinbrenner has kept quiet for most of the season, but he sounded off in a big way Saturday night.

The Yankees owner told The Record of North Jersey that manager Joe Torre will likely be fired if the glorious Yankees don't rally to beat Cleveland.
"His job is on the line. I think we're paying him a lot of money. He's the highest-paid manager in baseball, so I don't think we'd take him back if we don't win this series," said Steinbrenner.

The Yankees currently trail the best-of-5 series 0-2.

It would be the third straight first-round exit for the Yankees, whose flop vs. the Tigers last season nearly led to Torre's firing.

He also had some choice words for umpire Bruce Froemming, who allowed Game 2 to continue despite an infestation of Lake Erie gnats.

"The umpire was full of (expletive)."

As for Alex Rodriguez, Steinbrenner hopes to keep the slugger around a while longer.

"I think we'll re-sign him. I think he's going to have a good run the rest of the (postseason). I think he realizes New York is the place to be, the place to play. A lot of this (postseason) is laying on his shoulders, you know, but I think he's up to it."

Torre better hope so.

As much as I'm enjoying this turn of events, you are premature with the offer. Yankees are still alive & the Red Sox have a postseason "history" that's less than, shall we say, spectacular.

Damon came up big last night. Just hope the series doesn't come down to his cannon of a throwing arm :wink:

I just want to say thank you to all of you big hearted people out there. I am presently suffering from severe emotional trauma, and the only backhanded message of support I get is from a RED SOX FAN! I guess you really only find out who your true anonymous internet friends are in times such as these.

Oh, by the way, thanks also for all of the zero congratulatory messages I received after the huge win yesterday by the New York Football Giants.

I thought the Midwest was supposed to be friendly.
