Aren't the Reds North Shore J's team? This has "disastrous fit" written all over it. I just pray that he's offered the job before Mr. Steinbrenner makes his decision.

Baker interviews with Reds

Former San Francisco Giants and Chicago Cubs manager Dusty Baker has interviewed with the Cincinnati Reds for their vacant manager position and could be emerging as the leading contender for the job, major league sources tell FOXSports.com.

Baker's discussions with the Reds were also reported on the Web site for the Cincinnati Enquirer.
The Reds have been seeking a high-profile manager to replace Jerry Narron, who was fired by the team in mid-season. However, interim manager Pete Mackanin is still considered to be a candidate for the vacancy.

Baker is a three-time NL Manager of the Year and took both his previous teams to the brink of titles, leading the Giants to the World Series in 2002 and the Cubs to the NLCS in 2003.

Baker currently serves as an analyst for ESPN, having been fired in Chicago after going 66-96 during the 2006 season.

I don't care who's hired for that job, I don't see much hope for success there....they have a few starting pitchers, and some home run hitters...fun to watch when they are hitting, but not a good team.

I thought it was a foregone conclusion that Johnny Cakes was to be their next manager. Did he turn the job down?

"No, the Reds are not my team." Or;

"NO, DON'T HIRE DUSTY BAKER!"

The Reds are my team, but I may have to disavow (sp?) them if Dusty is hired. I couldn't watch. They should keep Mackinin or try to get LaRussa.

Don't they know the rule? Managers who leave the Cubs in disgrace are never allowed big league managerial jobs again.

Any team that hires Baker deserves what they get. His failings in SF were sort of swept under the rug, but after his Cubs tenure, GMs should absolutely know what they're getting into.

Word is out that it's official. Press conference scheduled for Monday afternoon. Reports that Darren Baker will act as a human shield are unconfirmed at this point.

Do the Reds have some young major league ready talent that needs to sit on the bench? If so, Dusty is perfect!

Homer Bailey
Jeff Keppinger
Joey Votto
Jay Bruce - Minor League Player of the Year.

This is a very sad day in Cincinnati.

Dusty's whole "you hate me because I'm black" schtick is going to be great in one of the most racially tense cities in America!

I kind of like Dusty, but he already started the 'people have called me telling me they want to come play here now' stuff, come on...

Bye bye Alex Gonzalez, hello Neifi...

That would require the Reds to spend money. If he's saying this, maybe he does expect more money to be spent there, but I'd be really suprrised to see any significant spending.

Does Neifi really command a high salary?

My Dear Internet Friends,
The Reds shall continue to play sleepy ball with a sleepy manager. Dusty is one to just let happen what ever happens. He is really more of a spectator than a manager. This bodes well for any and all fans of any National League Central team, as this ensures another losing season of lackadasical baseball.
Reds fans, welcome to hell.

Your Dear Friend and International Academy of Beauty Student,
Evil J.A.C.K.
