Is Kenny Lofton a candidate for the hall of fame?
I've been watching baseball since the 2000 season and KL seems to have an influence in many post season pushes and runs (love the fedex ad in his honor btw).

At age 40 I just saw him turn a single into a double tonight against the red sox. I think the numbers say no but I admire his play a lot.

Lofton - HOF....yes, especially if Sandberg(sp?) is in..... Sandberg, no World Series appearances, Sandberg...not a table setter, Sandberg...no real range in the field, Sandberg...not even a surly personality to speak of...

(And consider this: Sandberg's greatest contribute to the game was wifey no. 1(not exactly HOF material ----sorry RW)

Sandberg was iffy, but the standard for 2nd baseman is a lot lower than outfielders. Lofton is a no.

This may sound odd, but I've only held two standards for the HOF: Sustained greatness, and/or the kind of exceptional talent that one would actually pay (or stay) to watch.

Lofton may be a lot of things, but first among them is a ballplayer ready and able to make a play...for a long time. The guy is a game changer (sorry about the cliche) and has been for a long time. That is special and HOF material in my book.

Lofton is in the Fred McGriff, Harold Baines category.
Guys who were very good for very long time but were never superstars.
None of the 3 are HOF material in my book.
Now if Lofton was a 2B or a SS he'd be a lock.

I was going to say no, but watching him single, steal, and score... you could make a case.

There are players in the HOF with worse credentials than Lofton. People are forgetting how vital he was early in his career. The last six or seven years he has played for so many teams, he's gotten lost. He certainly is no longer the player he once was, but back in the early-mid 90s when he was hitting .340 and stealing 60-70 bases a year, he was one of the top five difference-makers in baseball.

No. Lofton is nothing more than a baseball journeyman who is just lucky enough to be shuffled among good teams. He made no dramatic impact on any of these teams and I am not so sure that they would not have made the playoffs without him.

if he were such a HOF'er, how come among all the playoff teams he's been on he has never won a WS? no fire...

At his best, Lofton was an MVP caliber player. He was absolutely disruptive on the base paths and a great defender. I don't think he will make the HOF.

Nah, without any major milestones (3,000 hits, MVP, .300 BA, top base stealer), he's a very good player who will get some HOF votes but will not make it.

A similar player would be Tim Raines, who won't make it either.

Great call on that comparison.
Johnny Damon is on the same path.
Unless Kenny finds a way to get another 600 hits, he'll fall short.
