One year, $8M with $2M in incentives. Seems pretty cheap, considering what Maddux just got.

This is what I had expected to happen. He gives Boston one more season and their younger arms (Buchholz and Lester) will have the experience to fully take over in 2009.

That's exactly what they are doing.
$8 mil for a 3rd starter who has proven to be able to handle the pressure of playing in Boston is a bargain. The Cubs are paying Marquis that much.
2008 Red Sox rotation will be:
1) Beckett
2) DiceK
3) Schill
4) Lester
5a) Bucholz
5b) Wakefield
Talking about bargains.
Wakefiled has a $4mil perpetual team clause, which means that as long as the Red Sox want him to pitch, he will do so for $4 mil.
Not a bad price for a 17 game winner.
