Didn't see this mentioned yet but the Astros traded Brad Lidge (along with IF Eric Bruntlett) to the Phillies for OF Michael Bourn, RHP Geoff Geary, 3B Mike Costanzo.

This allows the Phillies to move Brett Myers back into the rotation.

Bourn will move into the CF slot for the Astros and looks to be a burner. Geary is an old reliever who will add depth to the bullpen but pitchers like him would seem to be a dime a dozen. Costanzo looks like he might be a power hitting 3B but in the end, he might have been a disappointment for the Phils and they moved him.

Why someone would want Lidge as their closer is beyond me

Maybe not the playoffs but in 2005 he was all worldly at 42 saves, 2.29 ERA. Last year he was serviceable, with a 3.36 ERA, 19 saves, but a high 8 Blown saves. Maybe they think if they just let him go out there without worry, he'll be better.

It's a "change of scenery" trade.
The Astros want to get something for him before he completely implodes, and the Phils think that he can return to his old form. At leat he won't be intimidated by the tiny park in Philly.

Has there ever been any player to have his career ruined by one play as bad as Pujohls did to him?

Closer has always been a "what have you done for me lately" kind of job. Lidge was remarkable for so long, and then poof. Just like Eric Gagne, who was great a few years back and even this year with the BoSox the Fenway fans were booing him.
