Saw this link on Yahoo about a new stadium on the bay in St. Petersburg. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/mlb_ex ... lb%2C67665 |

They should just play on a real sailboat, provided it could hold all 463 of their fans. |

You forget that Dicky V. is a season ticket holder, doc. There would be 462 suicidal fans with various degrees of hearing loss if they played in close quarters. |

The current stadium is in the sketchiest part of St. Petersburg, and it takes a more coordinated security effort than I've ever seen at a sporting event to shuttle the geriatrics out to the expressway from the park; it's totally surreal. A move to the bay might not be a bad idea in the interest of pulling more local support/interest, but as it is the dome is an eyesore and nobody down there gives a shit about the team unless the Red Sox, Yankees, Tigers, or White Sox are in town; I've only been down there for a White Sox / Rays game, and they were able to get the entire first level - including bleachers - full, but I've also seen televised Red Sox/Rays games where they must have been giving tickets away, because it looked like a packed house. Anything they do down there is a step in the right direction. |

I am absolutely shocked bigfan has not replied with some sort of "yeah and it will be called Comiskey Park" joke yet. |

They must want people to swim to the game because I don't see any room for parking lots. |

I didn't realize there was a huge clamoring for a new stadium in St. Pete...isn't the current stadium only like 15 years old or so? I would be embarrassed to live in a city with that eyesore dominating the skyline. Raymond James boat in endzone = pretty fucking cool...this thing with it's sailboat for a roof = pretty fucking gay |

No, that stadium has been there for 18 years (opened March 3, 1990). According from Wikipedia, it was known as the Florida Suncoast Dome it's first three years, then had it's name changed to the much cooler Thunderdome for the next three (when the Lightning played there). It was supposed to draw either the Mariners or Giants to the area. |

Anything they do down there is a step in the right direction. More so than Comisky when the projects were still there? |

The projects came long after Comiskey was built though. This stupid orange dome was built in an already bad area. |
