The way some people spin it, any BoSox to come up with a "clutch" hit ought to be enshrined in the Hall of Fame by the time he gets back to the dugout.

That said, the guy can hit, nothing overrated about that.

Also overrated: Jason Bay before he got to Boston.

I agree with the "no range" comment. Yes, he won 9 gold gloves, but there were many balls that made it through up the middle that he had no chane at coming close to (and those are not ruled as errors). I can't recall Sandberg ever making a diving play in the field. If you don't take many chances obviously the amount of errors you make will be much lower. I think he was a great player, but he might be one of the most overrated defensive stars ever.

Okay, I'm not gonna compare memory recollection with you :drunken: but I most definitely remember Sandberg making diving grabs. If we're judging one's fielding prowess by attempts, then I think a very strong case can be made for ol' Ryno. I thought I'd compare the attempt numbers and fielding percentage between Sandberg and the guy who was widely regarded as the best fielder of that era, Ozzie Smith, who apparently made it into the Hall on the merit of fielding ALONE, and they're somewhat comparable, especially seeing as the shortstop position typically sees a bit more action than 2nd base...

either your memory is bad, or you didnt watch a lot of games during his career. he had decent but not great range. he had no problem diving for balls to either side.

Yeah what he said! Sandberg made a TON of diving plays in his career.

Sandberg has said that he was overwhelmed and embarrased by all the attention fixated on him during his early years in the MLB. He was a quiet kid from Spokane who just came to Chicago (by way of Philly) to play ball and had no clue how to handle all the attention. Not everyone who plays the game is a ball-buster and jokester like Ryan Dempster or Reed Johnson, or a media-savvy self-promoter like Joe freaking Morgan. He's by far one of the best, if not the best, second baseman of the modern era.

And he's much cuter than you

Fixed :P

Care to continue with the Ryno life story? I know you have that in you, dying to come out.
