According to USA Today & a national ESPN Radio "SportsCenter" I heard, with so many botched calls around the majors lately, there is growing talk making the rounds that Instant Replay could be a reality as soon as August 1st in Major League Baseball. The idea would be using video replay on "boundary calls", such as home run calls in certain games that were ruled as homers but stayed in play. Cases in point involves a Luis Rivas homer for the Pirates vs. the Cubs at PNC in Pittsburgh last month, plus an Alex Rodriguez homer that was ruled a double at Yankee Stadium are examples. For it to become a reality, it would have to be agreed to by the World Umpires Association, the union that now represents all MLB umps. While the technology is there, I'm not so sure it is that smart of an idea come August 1st when it was originally going to experimented in the Arizona Fall League. After further review, it should wait or not even be done, especially if it lengthens an already long game.
