The game means absolutely nothing and should be an exhibition and mean nothing for "home field advantage".The team with the best record should have home field period, No discussion over an out! 7 Cubs ...Joe Crede All Stars thats great I voted for Dye to make it but that doesn't change its an All-Star game nothing more nothing less. Baseball is a team sport not a game made of individual stats. So lets just enjoy the All-Star game and maybe commisioner Selig should have the fans vote if the winner of the All Star game or the team with the best record should have home field! Then maybe baseball will see that the fans have more knowledge than than commiisioner! |

If you are going to be arbitrary, give it to the league who won the world series the prior year. |

City of Fools wrote: let the League that wins the interleague series get the home field advantage...problem solved... than you have the losing side complaining about the crappy teams in their league not being able to hold up and help them out. its never gonna be perfect. do home field based on the two teams in the world sereis. wich ever has a better record gets it |

What pisses me off about the All-Star Game is the reported process. While it looks like the fans did their job in selecting the starters, the process seems flawed to me among the reserves and the pitchers. It really is bull that the light-hitting Jason Varitek of the Red Sox got picked over the White Sox Anthony John Pierzynski as a reserve catcher, in large part because of the "Players' Vote". A.J. is hitting over .300 for the White, but Jason for the Red is going despite a .216 BA. What's the deal? Also, the fact that "Every Team Must Be Represented" is nothing more than absolute crap. Because the All-Star Game has determined home field in the World Series since the Sox and U.S. Cellular Field last hosted the game in 2003, MLB "Commissioner" Allan H. Selig should wake up in his office and drop the ridiculous rule. Do you really want the Nationals' Cristian Guzman, the Royals' Joakim Soria, and even the Orioles' George Sherrill determining which league will get home field in the World Series when their own teams will likely have to buy a ticket or watch the games on TV? When your team sucks, you don't deserve ONE ALL-STAR!!! If it works in other sports' All-Star Games, MLB should do the same! |

if you want the game to mean something, let the managers and coaching staffs who are responsible for the teams pick the players. then, if they do a crappy job filling out the rosters, they can take the heat. the all-star game sucks anyway. i dont care how they pick the teams, im not watching anyway. bud selig was an idiot for trying to force meaning into the game with the home field advantage thing. like that is going to make a pittsburgh pirate or kansas city royal or a cincinnati red or 50% of either roster play any harder. by the time the all-star break rolls around, i need 3 days off from watching it every night anyway. wake me up when the real games start up again. |

SHARK wrote: Also, the fact that "Every Team Must Be Represented" is nothing more than absolute crap. While I don't disagree with the rest of this thread, this one IMO is off base. Try being a kid (in Chicago) during the 70's & early 80's following 'your guys' despite the team record, cheering on your favorite player, watching TWIB each week, and then not being able to look forward to your guy(or at least one of your guys) being on the All-Star team. It would have taken some of the luster of the game off for me 30+ years ago, but now... ...and then consider the importance of basic marketing/cultivating new fans and remember that this game is still important to the kids that vote online and harangue the hell out of their parents at games to fill out the damned All Star ballots(despite the rain ) |
