Yankees are close to signing Richie Sexson. He will be signed to hit lefties. Despite his low average, he was hitting over .300 this season against lefties.

The Phillies have agreed to a deal with the A's for Joe Blanton

Tony Clark waived his trade bonus and was traded from the padres to the DBacks for a young minor league reliever.

It will be fun to follow which ex-A's pitcher has the better 2nd half/playoff run.

That ship has sailed.

Richie Sexson has indeed signed with the Yankees, and he was hitting .344 vs. lefties before the Mariners released him last week. He could be in the lineup tonight when the Yanks host Greg Smith, a lefty, and the Oakland A's in the Bronx in the first of three over the weekend. The Athletics start the night 6 games back in the A.L. West, but it looks like they're packing it in with Joe Blanton now in Philadelphia & Rich Harden on the North Side. I think Harden will get his next start vs. the Cubs' latest nightmare, the Arizona Diamondbacks, Monday or Tuesday at Chase Field in Phoenix.

Billy Beane is always next years's greatest GM.

Yeah, Billy always tries to fleece teams that deal with him...

Billy Beane is an egomaniac piece of shit. He can make a bad team good but he can't make a good team great. That's why the pussy burrito stayed in Oakland all these years because he knew he could always talk the cheap-ass owner into selling before the pressure to win got too great.

I'll never understand why they didn't extend the trading deadline another week, when they added the four extra playoff teams several years ago.

I think the reason why is because of waivers, and the remote at best possibility that veteran players can still be dealt before the drop dead date of August 31st. That's the date to submit playoff rosters, and when players after September 1st aren't eligible for postseason play.

Yanks might be shopping for a catcher right now as Posada is likely going under the knife for a shoulder.

Yeah, because Jorge's season could be over as a result of the surgery, according to ESPNEWS.

Thanks for restating what I already wrote.

Yankees and Pirates made a deal - Pirates send Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte to NY for top outfield prospect Jose Tabata and minor league right-handers Dan McCutchen, Jeff Karstens and Ross Ohlendorf

Casey Blake was sent from the Indians to the Dodgers for two minor leaguers.

Anthony Reyes was traded from the Cardinals to the Indians for a minor league pitcher. Reyes will join Cleveland's AAA rotation. Fausto Carmona was activated from the DL.

The Marlins are out of the bidding for Brian Fuentes since the asking price was one of their top prospects and they will pursue Arthur RHodes now.

You should be happy that the Cards are the leader in the Brian Fuentes derby.
