just noticed that 13 of the 16 "mediocre" NL teams have a winning record at home (you can factor in interleague play where they got dominated once again by the AL). I am curious if there is a legit home field advantage in baseball? I would guess over the years the homefield win % in the NBA and NFL would be a lot higher than MLB. Is this an anomoly? I am too lazy to run the numbers but I would guess yes. What drives the homefield adv in baseball, knowing your stadium? the walls, the bounces, the lighting, adrenaline from the cheers? these are all legit but I would still say the NBA and NFL have more "legitimate" home field advantages. |

The home team hitting in the bottom of the 9th is the biggest home field advantage in sports. I'm not sure why the home team is winning at such a high rate this season but there has always been a great home field advantage in baseball. |
