Padres reportedly trade Maddux to Dodgers
Sporting News staff reports

The Los Angeles Dodgers bolstered their rotation Monday by acquiring righthander Greg Maddux from the San Diego Padres, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Maddux, 42, is 6-9 with a 3.99 ERA this season, but he also has been the victim of poor run support and/or poor bullpen work for most of this season. Maddux went 14 starts without a win after recording career victory No. 350 in May.

This is the second time in three seasons the Dodgers have obtained Maddux for a playoff run. They got him from the Chicago Cubs in July 2006 for shortstop Cesar Izturis. That year, Maddux went 6-3 with a 3.30 in ERA in 12 starts and helped the Dodgers win the National League wild card. L.A. was swept by the New York Mets in the NL Division Series.

The Dodgers are tied with the Arizona Diamondbacks for first place in the NL West. Both teams were off on Monday.

The Times did not report who the Dodgers would send to the Padres.

I tend to agree, Shirtless. Greg Maddux will be a Hall-of-Famer when he finally calls it a career.

he's got a 3.99 era. why should he retire? it seems like he is pitching pretty well. at least he isnt pulling a favre every year. he has made it clear he will keep pitching until he cant get a job anymore.

LA's looking to wrap up the shitty West. I don't see this as being too far out of reach.
I'll enjoy seeing Mad Dog in another playoff run.

the Cubs should thank him...this move may finish off the only thing that stands in front of the Cubs in the playoffs...Arizona...

he didn't win a game in 14 starts (or whatever)...but their bullpen blew several leads & potential wins during that span too. I want him to pass up Clemens in total victories.

They (media) also are quick to bring up CC Sabathia (sp?) and his 8 game winning streak. Din't the Cubs knock him around pretty good & knock him out of the game? Sure he didn't get a loss...their team did though & he contributed to it. Whatever....most numbers & streaks & stats can be twisted any ol' way to support any side of an argument.

He had trouble winning away from spacious Petco Park. I have a feeling this is the last hurrah for Maddux as well as Glavine, while Smoltz gives it one more try.

I want Jamie Moyer to stick around until he gets 300 wins. He will get win number 300 at age 57.

Do you think they got him to pitch against the Cubs in the playoffs? His career numbers are good against the beloved, maybe they are thinking ahead?

They brought Maddux in because Brad Penny found his way to the DL again and they needed another starter. Maddux agreed to only go to LA and no other NL team.

His splits are horrendous, showing the benefits of pitching at Petco.

He was 3-4 with a 2.62 at home while he was 3-5 with a 5.75 ERA on the road. His WHIP at home was around 1 and on the road around 1.67.

He's going to struggle in LA and don't look now Cub fans, but Arizona has a 2 game lead on LA.
