Baseball fans, you don't have to be Tom Skilling to know how crappy the weather has been the last 2 days here in Chicago! The White Sox have been rained out twice in the last 2 days, unable to play a single game Friday night or a doubleheader this afternoon vs. the Tigers. The heavy rains may follow the Sox to the Bronx, where they're scheduled to play 4 with the Yankees in their final visit to the current Yankee Stadium, starting Monday. Rain may be waiting for the Sox next weekend in Kansas City, and may affect other teams currently in the divisional & wildcard races the last week to 10 days. In the best interests of baseball, "Commissioner" Allan H. Selig, the time has come for you, your fellow owners & the MLB Players Association to trim the schedule from the current 162 to maybe 132 games. I realize that it likely would never happen, but with all the rain here, Hurricane Ike making a Cubs/Astros' series in Houston all but impossible to play this weekend, and with the weather terrible in April & changing in September, the time has come to cut it down! The baseball season is too long as it is!

Thank you, Shark! The Major League season has been way too long ever since it expanded to 162 games. I personally think that the season could be cut short, not only because of inclimate weather, but because each game could become even more meaningful and you'd have more opportunity to reschedule games because of weather.

However, I don't see it happening. There will be too much money lost if the season got cut, by both ownership and the players (dugout, clubhouse), so there's a snowballs chance in hell that we'd see it in our lifetime.

Shark, you can call for the schedule to be cut all you want, but it will never happen, so you might as well move on.

Reinsdorf would have him killed if he even proposed a reduction.

162 seems fine to me. Heavy rains can happen in the middle of the summer.

For me, baseball season never comes soon enough...and ends too soon. I like the 162. Baseball every day!

Agreed. No way does it ever get reduced. I don't see it expanding anytime in the near future either, but that's an easy way to add revenues.

I wish that it was cut, especially when you considered how crappy our own weather was this weekend, plus Hurricane Ike forcing the Cubs & Astros to play a makeshift series in Milwaukee's Miller Park. Think of all the playoff games that are now played, or could be played. I bet MLB's broadcast partners, FOX Sports, ESPN & Turner/TBS Sports, would love to start the postseason a week or two sooner than they do now, given how much $$$$ each of these networks now pay to broadcast Bud Selig's Major League Baseball and will continue to pay for years to come.

Yeah I heard this bullshit on the MJH show too. Disagreed with it when Mac was yammering on about it and I still disagree hearing you regurgitate his words.

Beardown, "Mac" wanted a 96-game season, while I thought a 132 or 142 game regular season was suitable. While I know that MLB has been 162 for quite sometime, there was a time that they didn't play that many games, and it was long before I was born...

I don't mind a long season, but I wish the playoffs weren't played in such crappy conditions in the Midwestern Cities. I'm not sure moving the season back 10 games would change much so I'd just leave it alone.
