Taking into consideration what happened last night in Philly, I was wondering what the actual rule is for calling a game complete due to rain or other bad weather? I have always been under the impression that after 5 innings, you've got a complete game and it can be called finished after that point. However, with this being the World Series, I understand that they should play all 9 innings... but did Selig make that determination because the score was tied? What if one side was blowing out the other?

The umpires said that the mound and basepaths were not being compromised and that the game was actually suspended due to the "velocity of the rain". Is that the actual determining factor, and if so, how the heck are you supposed to determine when rain is falling fast enough?

Games that matter, be they regular season games with playoff implications or playoff/world series games themselves, cannot be finished in less than 9 innings. If they can't go tonite, they will reume on Wednesday and if the Rays win, they will have no off day and play Thursday in St Pete. I don't know why this rule wasn't officially announced, but thats the way it goes. Be it a tie game, 1 run game, or a laugher, the game will go all 9.

Is that an actual rule? I listened to Mike & Mike this morning and they were debating the fact as to whether or not this should be a NEW rule. The discussion they had indicated this (all playoff - WS games must go 9) was not a rule. Selig's comments went something like this..."I would never allow a World Series to end this way (rain )".

This is something that would happen to the Cubs.

I heard that portion of the show as well, and that's what made me think about this whole thing.
