Yes, he won 9 gold gloves, but there were many balls that made it through up the middle that he had no chane at coming close to (and those are not ruled as errors). I can't recall Sandberg ever making a diving play in the field. If you don't take many chances obviously the amount of errors you make will be much lower. I think he was a great player, but he might be one of the most overrated defensive stars ever. |

He was a quiet kid from Spokane who just came to Chicago (by way of Philly) to play ball and had no clue how to handle all the attention. Not everyone who plays the game is a ball-buster and jokester like Ryan Dempster or Reed Johnson, or a media-savvy self-promoter like Joe freaking Morgan. He's by far one of the best, if not the best, second baseman of the modern era. And he's much cuter than you ![]() |
