For some reason I always thought Rafael Belliard was a great name. I used to always replace the lyrics to Green Day's "Geek Stink Breath"- on my own..here we go with Rafael Belliard |

Call me crazy, but I kind of miss the Expos franchise. I didn't like them or anything, but their uniforms looked clown-like which made it easier to root against them...plus the fact that they were from Montreal. |

Omar Moreno is a great one and the first one that came into my mind. When I was a kid there was a commercial jingle that we used to use Omar's name for. I don't remember the original but I remember ours was something like... Omar Moreno is the Sports Country.... Obviously it was for some sporting goods store. Here's a few others... Ed Ott Woodie Fryman Rollie Fingers Pete LaCock Cookie Rojas Cesar Geronimo Von Joshua |

What, no love for Dick Tidrow, Ivan DeJesus or Jesus Alou? But for some reason I get a small laugh whenever Willie Bloomquist steps to the dish. |

Yorvit Torrealba anagrams out to Lavatory Orbiter Ray Liotta, former White Sox farmhand Josh Outman, most appropriate name for an SP Lastings Milledge, one of the most olden-tyme sounding names this side of the NFL (e.g. RW McQuarters) Callix Crabbe, sounds like an extra from Star Wars Cecil Espy, because when I was a kid I always thought the Booya Network named their award after him Choo Freeman, sounds like the name of a guy who played bass alongside Phillie Joe Jones' kit in the Miles Davis Quintet. Laz Diaz, not a player but an umpire, frequent thorn in the side of the Sox Gustavo Chacin, largely due to the fact that he was a hairless albino |

For decades, white and Latino players with ethnic names would shorten or simplify their surnames in order to "get along" easier in the league. The following names would not fly back in the day. Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C/1B for the Texas Rangers, owner of the longest recorded name in American professional baseball history Mike Moustakas, 3B, 2nd overall pick by the Royals in the 2007 draft George Kottaras, C, highly touted prospect for both the Padres and the Red Sox Russell Nathan Jeanson Coltrane Martin, Jr., 3B/C for Los Angeles Dodgers. |
