Here's my top 10 and Sox/cubs picks:

1. Washington- RHP Stephen Strasburg. Best player in the draft. Hopefully the Nats won't screw him up.

2. Seattle- CF Dustin Ackley. Best hitter in the draft and Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik has a history of drafting position players while he was scouting director for the Brewers.

3. San Diego- RHP Aaron Crow. The most major league ready pitcher in the draft and someone is going to have to pitch after they trade Peavy and Young, right?

4. Pittsburgh- LHP Tyler Matzek. High school pitchers are the riskiest picks and this draft is loaded with them. Matzek is the best lefty in the draft and has definite ace potential.

5. Baltimore- RHP Alex White. White was considered one of the top collegiate pitchers before the season but got off to a very slow start. A strong finish has eased some of the concerns and he moved himself back into the top 5.

6. San Francisco- OF Donovan Tate. Maybe the best athlete in the draft and is a possibility for the Padres at #3 but his exorbitant asking price (guess who is agent is?) will probably scare them off but not the Giants. The organization is starved for position players and won't let this one get away.

7. Atlanta- RHP Zack Wheeler. Atlanta LOVES their home state players and will be thrilled if this fireballing high schooler is available at #7.

8. Cincinnati- LHP Mike Minor. Cincy has drafted position players with their top pick the last 4 years so I'm guesing they get a pitcher here. They will have their choice of several good ones and the lefty from Vandy is the safest pick.

9. Detroit- SS Grant Green. Green was considered a top player before the season but a very bad year for the Trojans has put his draft position in question. One of the top athletes in the draft I've seen him projected as high as #3 to the Padres and as low as #29 to the Yankees. Detroit has a history of drafting players other teams are scared of and that trend continues here. The fact the organization is desperate for middle infileders doesn't hurt either.

10. Wasington- RHP Chad Jenkins. This is a compensation pick for failing to sign last years top pick Aaron Crow. Signability is key because if they are unable to sign this pick they will not receive further compensation. Jenkins has stated signing will not be a problem.

23 Chicago White Sox- RHP Eric Arnett. A big (6'5" 225) strong right hander with natural sink on his 91-93 fastball. Arnett also has an excellent breaking pitch. He is a workhorse and projects as a top of the rotation starter. Other possibilities are OF Tim Wheeler and OF Reymond Fuentes.

31. Chicago Cubs- OF AJ Pollock. Hendry loves his Domers. Pollock is one of the top collegiate hitters and an excellent athlete. He projects as a top of the order hitter. Other possibilies are OF Mike Trout and OF Everett Williams.

The MLB Draft is airing this afternoon on MLB Network, DIRECTV 213, just so you know. As for the Washington Nationals' likely drafting this Stephen Strasburg kid, agent Scott Bora$ is already said to be looking for $50 million for a pitcher many feel can immediately pitch right now in the majors. I'm not so sure the Nats, despite a relatively new ballpark and a less than sparkling box office since relocating from Montreal, want to pay a guy like Stephen that kind of money & deal with Bora$.

According to ESPN.com's Keith Law, the Pirates have come to an agreement with Boston College catcher Tony Sanchez and will draft him when they select fourth tonight.

The Pirates strike again! Sanchez was projected to be a mid to late 1st rounder so the Pirates are going 'under slot'. This is a very curious move considering the organization saved millions in the McLouth deal last week.

My sources at Boston College tell me that Sanchez is one of the dirtiest players in the College game.

They sure did. Reports had them interested in Green but when Crow fell that far they grabbed him.

He won't sign till the deadline on Aug 17 and by that time he should be done for the year. He'll probably be in the rotation in '10.

Sox take OF Jared Mitchell out of LSU. He's a project. I wish they would have drafted best available rather than for need.

YES! Sox get C Josh Phegley from Indiana. This guy can flat out hit. Catching skills are suspect but he can flat out HIT!

You can never have too many "all hit no glove" guys on your AL roster. AL teams should be salivating over Jake Fox.

Yes, but I think Flowers will start his career as a catcher. They may move him later but he's going to get a shot to be an everyday catcher. Phegley has a lot of work to do behind the plate but he will do just fine at the plate..

I really wish they would have drafted Phegley's battery mate Eric Arnett. He's a workhorse-type with top of the rotation potential. The Brewers will have a nice 1-2 with Gallardo and Arnett( and Jake Odorizzi not far behind). Grow the arms and buy the bats.
