According to the accounts I have seen, there is still one opening on the AL side for the HR derby. Would you like to see Dye in the mix? Dye would have as many HRs as any representative currently does. I'm hesitant to have him in it... on the one hand, I'd love to see him get some more national exposure because he is truly one of the better OFs in the league right now, but I'm also afraid it will screw up his swing for the rest of the year for the Sox. This has been known to happen to HR participants in the past. Thoughts?

Gee, does the fact they are testing have anything to do with Dye having as many HR's as any participant? Maybe I will get my game back, afterall.

The contestants for the HR must be on the all-star rosters.

I did not know that. That seems kind of stupid to me. There's lots of HR hitters that I would love to watch that I wouldn't vote for the all-star team.

Giambi was invited last year but declined because he wasn't voted an All Star.

According to the 100% always right Wikipedia...

Wikipedia wrote:
Eight players, who are generally on the All-Star Game rosters (though this is not necessitated by rule), are selected for the Home Run Derby and compete in a traditional playoff system where the players with the most home runs advance to the next round.

Wasn't it either Abreu or Tejada that participated to defend their crown even though they weren't elected?

I believe that was the case for Ryan Howard last year right?

You're right. Ryan Howard, but it was 2007.

Jermaine Dye in HR Derby?

No way. Jermaine is old, overpaid and bad. He's so old I don't think he can even pick up a bat.

Someone must have told Mauer that this was the "Line Drive Single" Derby because he agreed to play in it.... the odds of an NL guy winning it have to be about 75%.
