If I had a vote:

Roberto Alomar
Harold Baines
Bert Blyleven
Andre Dawson
Pete Rose

It is a real shame that Bert Blyleven is not already in the HOF.

There's at least 1 Blyleven post in this section somewhere. I'm too lazy to look it up. Bottom line is that Nas( I think it was him) says no beacause he doesn't have 300 wins. But yes to Schilling. Thats a load of bunk. No pitcher should be inducted until Bert is.

edit; its slow at work so I'm not that lazy

The fact Bert Blyleven isn't a Baseball Hall of Famer is very puzzling to say the least. Even if you can't stand the Twins, Bert & Dick Bremer call a solid, entertaining ballgame on FOX Sports North and on MY Network TV up there in Minneapolis.

As for Pete Rose, he should be in the Hall, statistically speaking. He'll NEVER go in however, thanks in large part to his betting on the game, which is an absolute no-no in MLB. He had his chance over a decade ago to come clean, and he blew it.

Hall of The Very Good:

Dave Parker
Jack Morris
Barry Larkin

I have a feeling Larkin will eventually get in. His numbers for the shortstop position are pretty good. I believe one of the players his stats compare favorably with is Derek Jeter. I think I heard that on ESPN - might have been Levine and Hood on the weekend.

Ron Santo should be in too. Parker was a fantastic hitter and had a tremendous arm on defense.

Parker's Career Stats:

339 HR's
1493 RBI's
.290 BA
2712 Hits
.339 OBP
.471 Slug
.810 OPS

Boy that's pretty close to a HOF career. 1493 RBI and 2712 Hits puts him on par with some HOF'ers.

Yeah,to go along with his big fat ass! Between him & Stargell, the Buc's cornered the market on fat guys that can hit. There were a few back then,Frank Howard,Boog Powell,Harmon Killebrew. Of course today we have many: Big Papi, the slob on Milwaukee whose name escapes me right now.

JP - I don't recall the Cobra being a fatter player until or very near the end of his playing career. How many fat cokeheads have you ever seen?

Say what you want about Parker - the guy could rake and had a rocket for an arm.

DDave is right. Parker was getting 20 steals a year in his prime. I know that because I remember him being an SP-B in Statis-Pro to go with his T5 arm.

The more I am looking at Dave Parker's overall career, the more I am starting to wonder why he hasn't gotten more consideration.

Finished in the top 3 for MVP voting 4 times and won in 78.

Won 2 batting titles.

Won 3 Gold Gloves

Finished in top 3 for most hits 3 times - had 215 hits in 77

He's 51st all time in total RBI's.

How has he never gotten more than 24% of the vote?

Maybe his statistics compare favorably with Derek Sanderson Jeter in the cocaine infested brain of Dave Parker. Perhaps in Superman's bizarro world one might say their statistics are comparable.

Barry Larkin (19 seasons)
2340 hits
1,329 runs
441 doubles
198 home runs
960 runs batted In
24 postseason hits, 3 postseason runs batted in

Derek Sanderson Jeter (Only 15 seasons)
2,747 hits
1,574 runs
438 doubles
224 home runs
1,068 runs batted in
A million postseason hits, a million postseason runs batted in
Dated numerous hot models

The major issue of the cocaine scandal aside, my guess would be that he, like Dale Murphy were great for only a few years, then hung around & tarnished their legacies on the field as well.

Yes you can.

Sept 1977 he threw a no-hitter.

He was very good in the 1979 World Series and came in in relief on 2 days rest to win one of the last games. I think he won 2 of the 4 games.

He was good in the 87 Series also.

Alomar
Dawson
Larkin

Blyleven was a (very)good pitcher for a number of years, but HOF great, I don't think so. I'd even prefer Morris over Blyleven. While I'd agree that Morris has a less impressive career in total, he was the no. 1 on two different championship teams. For most of his career the general perception was that Blyleven was too often a junkballer, and a cheat at worst, whereas Morris was genuinely feared for 6,7,8 years.

Smith, again the Hall of Very Good.

Morris was the stud that pitched in the big game. He had HOF moments.

Blyleven belongs in the hall of very good.

Blyleven had 60 career shutouts. And played for some horrible Cleveland and Minnesota teams. Also he was hurt and missed a couple of his prime years in his 20s. Career ERA just a tick above 3, 287(ish) career wins? Yeah, thats HOF.

Punters, unlike "special teams representatives" have an actual primary position on depth charts. While I ordinarily have no use for Punters/Kickers(or Steve Tasker  ) or DHs in any HOF, Ray Guy was special.

Not Reggie Roby of the 48 yd. punt (but 36yd net) "special" but 45-48 yd punt w/a 42+ yard net special. Of the "no one returns one all the way against him" special. Of the get up early and get a beer, unless you want to watch a long, booming punt with no return variety.

SR - don't get me wrong I agree with you that Jeter has had an exceptional career - I was just saying that I think I heard either Levine or Hood saying that according to the stats that compare players to their most like player (I can't remember the name of the website) Larkin compares to Jeter most statistically. Jeter IMHO is a first ballot HOF'r I don't think that can be debated. But Larkin's stats at the shortstop position will garner some consideration. I personally think he belongs in the hall of the very good, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Larkin go in.
