MLB Moves Up Start of 2011 Season
November World Series games will be a thing of the past in 2011.

The 2011 World Series will begin on Wednesday, October 19, eight days earlier than this year's scheduled October 27 start. Assuming MLB continues using the current scheduling format, Game 7 of the series would be set for Thursday, October 27.

This year's Game 7 is likely to take place on Thursday, November 4; last year's Game 7 was set for Thursday, November 5.

With the World Series moving up a week, the dates for Opening Day and the start of the postseason have also changed. Opening Day will be Friday, April 1, "three days earlier than the traditional Monday opener."

There is no word on whether there will still be a single Opening Night game prior to Opening Day, which would likely take place on Thursday, March 31.

The change to Opening Day allows Major League Baseball to avoid competing with college basketball's National Championship Game; the two events have often occurred on the same day.

The regular season is set to end on Wednesday, September 28, and the postseason would begin on either Friday, September 30 or Saturday, October 1.

I know you probably don't want to have a November World Series, but is starting a season on Friday help that, I always liked the Monday as the opening day. If they start the playoffs on a Saturday, good luck going against college football.
