Great stuff. Not the usual Baseball fight. This one was pretty good. Nyjer Morgan bowled over the Marlins catcher (Brett hayes) the night before, so the pitcher (Chris Volstad) plunked Morgan in the ribs as a symbol of the teams feelings about Morgans actions the night before (Hayes ended up with a shoulder injury). Morgan then stole 2nd and 3rd and scored on a sac fly. The next time Morgan came up, the pitcher threw BEHIND Morgan and Morgan went out to the mound, wanting a piece of Volstad. Morgen threw a punch that barely grazed Volstad, before Gabby Sanchez knocked him down with somewhat of a semi clothes-line to Morgan. Morgan baited the crowd afterwards and is likely to be suspended more for that than the fight. I would guess that Volstad might get a game or two off too. |

A negro ballplayer getting suspended is no doubt right up your alley. |

Morgan also went in to the "Colored" locker room before the game. Dock him another 20 games. |

I just watched the video on Foxsports.com, and the Fox Sports Florida version of Sarah Kustok is pretty hot. |

Volstad should get the larger suspension. You want to plunk the guy to protect yours, fine. Morgan took his base and that shouldve ended it. You then get pissed off that he steals 2 bases on you after you just hit him and throw at him again next time up? sorry thats bush league shit, shouldve just been happy you evened the score the first time. |

That shit can get dangerous... |

So he's beaned once and then thrown at again, and HE warrants a heavier fine? C'mon DT, no matter how big an asshat Morgan is, Volstad is the clear instigator in this case. |

Sanchez close lining Morgan was the best part of it. I agree that you can't keep throwing at a guy, it should have been over after he hit him the first time. Also it's the big leagues, if you don't like him stealing a base down by that much than do a better job of throwing him out. |

Doesn't morgan have a 7 gamer coming as well for throwing a ball at a fan, or did he already serve that? I have no problem with the hit on the catcher and that seems to be what started this chain of events. Don't stand in the baseline in front of the plate if you don't want to get hit. He didn't violate an unwritten rule there, its just hard baseball. I need to know more about the stolen bases to judge that situation. It was the 4th inning and the rule of thumb is that regardless of the lead everything is game until the 5th or 6th inning. What I need to know is whether or not he was being held on. If one manager tells his players to hold the runner regardless of the score, then its generally accepted that its fair game to steal bases. If he isn't being held then that is the indication stealing is no longer cool. |

I dont get why they were so upset about a guy stealing 2 bases while down by 11. Who cares? Let him steal home also. If Washington was up by 11 runs and Morgan was hit twice on purpose, then he still can steal the bases also. If you are going to intentionally hit the same guy twice in one game, then all of these BS "unwritten rules" go out the window. If you want to embarass Nyjer Morgan, strike him out 4 times. That was a cool clothesline by Gaby Sanchez. |

It goes beyond this game; Urlacher pointed out the 7-games he's got coming (on appeal, btw) not to mention blasting two different catchers for absolutely no reason whatsoever with one of them subsequently being knocked-out for the rest of the season. Also, the reason you don't steal bases that early down that much is because your run doesn't matter ... that is, you need a whole hell of a lot more than just that one run, so if they're going to manufacture a comeback, he'll get around the bases just fine w/out stealing. That said, I wouldn't bristle at stealing second, but when he goes to third, then he's back to being selfish asshat. Anyway, MLB has a track record of tacking on more games for repeat offenders, irrespective of who was the instigator. Riggleman's too nice a guy to publicly hang his guy unless it's so egregious that you're essentially forced to speak negatively (like when he blasted the Cardinals catcher), but I'd bet top dollar that Riggleman thinks the little bastard is probably more trouble than he's worth at the moment. |

I would take the Morgan kid on my team any day of the week. Playing for the Nats, he is probably tired of getting slapped around for 162 games. It shows some "fire" at least. Imagine if he played for the Cub all year........ he might pull out an assault rifle. |

Najer Morgan is an absolute punk for what he did last night with his Nationals getting clobbered by the Marlins at the time of the bench-clearing brawl. He's already appealing a 7-game suspension for a confrontation with a fan at Nationals Park. If MLB had a real "Commissioner" instead of an idiot named Allan H. Selig, Morgan's ass would be done for the rest of the season! It was absolutely despicable! |

How dare he charge the mound after having a pitch thrown behind him after already being hit once earlier on. What a hothead. |

It's ok to get thrown at twice by a little bitch like the Marlins pitcher but to charge the mound when you know more than likely you're going to get the worst of it because the other teams infielders are going to get there before your bench and jack you up is bad? Plus the throwing into the stands story isn't as cut and dried as you seem to think it is. You can pin one of the two catcher collisions as a punk move, but I'll play the card and say if Eckstein, Biggio, or Rowand did the same things it would called gritty and an example of fire and the passion, but if Nyjer Morgan does it he's a punk. |

Little Bitch??? Volstad is 6 foot 7. Do you even know who he is? Plus, Volstad stood in front of the mound with his hands at his sides as Nyjer ran out towards the mound, so it's not like he was trying to run away from Morgan. To the main point...Morgan is an moron. The Pirates had had enough of him and let him go, because he seems to have graduated from the Milton Bradley school of manners/behavior as class Valedictorian. He is a totally selfish player. A team down more than 5-6 runs will generally not try stealing bases, because the risk is not worth the reward. You need lots of runs, not just 1 and taking the chance at being thrown out is not smart. But he did it anyway, because he doesn't care about his teammates or his team. Morgan only cares about whats important to him. Then he charges the mound, even though the pitch missed him by 2 feet. You have to know that charging the mound will result in a suspension, but he doesn't consider for a moment how that might affect his team. He's just an idiot. It should have been over after Volstad hit Morgan, but when Morgan decided to steal the bases, it was basically a F.U. to the Marlins and it escalated things. Morgan deserved to be drilled. He injured the Marlins catcher on a play at home where he crashed into the catcher, even though he could have and SHOULD have slid instead. If he slides, he's probably safe. But he went in like a linebacker and seemed bent on trying to hit the catcher as hard as he could (and was out). The catcher has a shoulder injury now and it was the pitchers obligation to stand up for his catcher and exact some punishment. I'll bet some of Nyjers teammates would like to do the same to him. Firing a ball at a fan in the stands and also plowing over Cardinals catcher Byran Anderson (cheap shot) had to have the commissioner concerned already about this loose cannon. I think this puts it over the top and Morgan gets some time off. Volstad did nothing wrong. He was standing up for his teammate. |
