I didn't think I'd start this thread until after the World Series but he have the first major free agent signing of the offseason: The Dodgers and left-hander Ted Lilly have agreed to terms on a three-year deal. Money was not disclosed but I'm guessing it will be 3yr/$30M. A very good signing for the Dodgers. Lilly had to really love pitching in Dodger Stadium that last month to sign so early. |

wow, i didnt know about this good for him...Im surprised he got $10 mil a year though, which is what he had with the cubs he is now 4 years older, and although he won a few games with LA, he didnt exactly distinguish himself i think he is nothing more than a $7 mil dollar pitcher now |

The Dodgers losing about $42.5M in payroll from Manny ($20M), Kiroda ($13M), Padilla ($5M) and Sherrill ($4.5M) so they can sign Lilly and still 'cut' payroll. |

My guy Keyser, keeping baseball alive. Lilly was one of Hendry's good moves. Now that he seems to be healthy, I think the Dodgers made a good deal. Chavez at night is a good place for him to pitch. I wonder how incentive laden the contract is. |

Dodgers signed LHP Ted Lilly to a three-year, $33 million contract. He will also receive a $3.5 million signing bonus and full no-trade rights in 2011 and 2012. A little more than I thought but still a good deal for the Dodgers though the 2 years of no trade is a head scratcher. |

I agree the no trade clause is dumb from the Dodgers perspective though. |

Tigers re-signed 3B Brandon Inge to a two-year contract with a club option for 2013. Terms were not disclosed. Another early free agent signing. Probably a smart move considering the weak class of free agent third baseman. Inge's power is down but he's still good defensively. This is the first of many offseason moves by the Tigers. |

SI's Jon Heyman thinks that the move on Inge, instead of Beltre, means the Tigers are going to go hard on The Big Donkey, Adam Dunn. He also cites the White Sox, Angels and Yankees as suitors. Says that Dunn would prefer the NL, however. |

Dunn will be a VERY popular target this offseason especially if it won't cost the team signing him a draft pick. Brilliant move, Rizzo. |

I wouldn't give Dunn more than 2 years. He has a long slow swing and when it goes he is going to be useless. |

Didn't I read somewhere where they said they expected the payroll to be about the same next year? So if that is true with Lee and Lily gone they will be signing someone. |

immessedup17 wrote: Payroll has already been cut, depending on how you look at it. Since Lee and Lilly are gone, that is $25M less than last year's payroll. If they are talking about cutting payroll from what the Cubs finished the season at, then I am a bit unhappy and agree with you. But from what I understand, they said the payroll would be less than last year's $147M...we finished the season at like $115M I think. I'd have to look at the 2011 numbers but I believe Soriano and Zambrano do not have raises this year. edit: If the Cubs play with $125M, that's $20M less than 2010...and still $10M (or more) in 2011 for Adam Dunn...and we all know Hendry intices players with blackloaded contracts anyways... Adam Dunn isn't the type of player that needs his legs in 4 years though. I think the situation will depend on whether or not they can move some of the current large contracts on the books. I would not be surprised if the stood pat and just added role players at a discount. |

Backloaded contracts with escilators. Soriano, Zambrano, ARAM and Dempster are all getting raises for a job well done last year. |

I doubt he will lose much over the next few years. He will always be the left handed power threat and is very good at drawing walks when needed. As much as I like Dunn. At some point Id like the Cubs to stop signing players best suited to DH |

Quade can't manage Adam Dunn. Only a guy like Sandberg can handle him. |

Terms of Inge's deal have been released. Looks like a good deal for both parties. 2yr/$11.5M with a club option for 2013. He'll make $5.5 million in each of the next two seasons. The club holds a $6 million option for 2013 or a $500,000 buyout |

Cubs have $98M committed already to like 8 guys. So if payroll is staying the same or going lower, they don't have much room to operate. |
