I just read he signed another contract with the Cards to be pitching coach. The way he has turned nobodies into decent pitchers every season,I was wondering why he is never mentioned to be a manager.

He's happy where he is.

Like Monte Kiffin always was.

He aslo is cheating somehow.

He needs to do even better this year as LaRussa's losing it.

He's either

a)Cheating

b) A wizard, literally

c) 100X better than anyone ever to have his position.

I would have gone with Suppan, but Weaver works...

I vote b)

Suppan is a decent example but he was never dominant.

Weaver was like fuckn 99 Pedro for that short stint with the Cards. He was TERRIBLE immediately before and after his time with Duncan.

I see what you are saying...Suppan was a steady 12-15 game winner from what I remember...but that '06 postseason got him paid...

...Weaver...that was a thing...

Carpenter was considered permanently broken before he got to Duncan.

as a watcher of Dunc from his Oakland days:

No cheating, just watches a ton of video (and I mean a ton)
Gives pitchers a third or fourth pitch as starters, trims them back as relievers, and in that same vein, knows starters from relievers and relievers from starters.
Emphasizes strikes, and weeds out the pitchers that can't throw them.

No offense but Ive been watching him since then too.

Its not any of that.

Every pitching coach in baseball does what you wrote.

There's something extra with Duncan...

Missed this topic somehow.

Duncan is a film, chart guy, similar to a football defensive coordinator distributes a game plan for each series. His philosopy is pitch to contact, keep the ball down, so his successes have come with guys that fill that profile. He's failed with some guys like Marquis, you just hear about the successes a lot more. Some of it might be overblown, but when you consider the wealth of experience as he has now served as a pitching coach longer than anyone in baseball history at 31 seasons and counting.

You mean Cof is wrong about something, again?

Just because you insert unnecessary paragraph breaks between your statements doesn't make your statements any more true. CoF and Apologist are both right. Duncan puts in the work and he's got the instinct/experience for the job.

But what the fuck do I know.

I hardly ever post here.

Duncan is going to get at least 15 wins out of Justin Ducherer next year when he inevitably joins the cards.
