Jerry and Tony are great friends. Jerry appreciates guys who taught him in sports and LaRussa might be the highest on that list, Similar to Doug Collins scenario, but much closer.

Thus see Ozzie going to FLA and then Jerry makes Kenny an offer to be bumped up to Team President, with a raise and he keeps quiet because Tony is going to be running the team with Rick Hahn.

We will then see if Kenny's massive ego has him look for another job or he takes the semi retirement package.

It was not his assumption, he called it LIKELY.

I would say more like, I would not be surprised if it went down the way he said, but he needed to add, Jerry letting it be known to people in FLA that Ozzie can be had if they ask, then jerry will ask for something , which might stop the deal.
