Buddies and I were drinking and throwing some darts last night when we got to talking about Chicago baseball. It's my contention that an 2011 'all star' team of Chicago only players still would only be able to be competitive in 2 divisions (AL and NL Central). One of my buddies thought they would be at almost 60 wins already. Here's the starting 8 we agreed upon based strictly off of this years stats. C- AJ (probably our most controversial agreement, I liked Soto's power and defense over AJ, AJ is hitting better this year though no doubt) 1B- Paulie 2B- Barney SS- Castro 3B-Ramirez LF- Soriano CF- Byrd RF- Quentin SP Danks Garza Buehrle Humber Floyd BP Wood Marshall Marmol Crain Santos Sale Pitching is obviously the strength. The same run scoring issues would still exist for both sides of town. I couldn't see this team winning the NL or AL East at all. And it would be a really tough go in the NL West and AL West. Go Bears. |

Switch out Alexi Ramirez for Castro and you have yourself a thing. Ramirez: same basic hitter, better defender at this stage of their careers. |

Points still the same, I don't think this team wins a damn thing |

Seems like very few people are noticing just how good Gordon Beckham has played at 2nd base this year. Hitting has been very subpar, but he defense there has really been 2nd to none this season. |

Only 2 errors all year for the Jason Hervey (from "The Wonder Years")-looking Gordon Beckham at second base for the White Sox and the highest-rated defensive second baseman in the American League. The more I think about #15 in silver and black, he should have been with the Sox from Day 1 in 2009. He was clearly better than Chris Getz, now the everyday second baseman with the Royals, and Jayson Nix, who is now with the Blue Jays as a backup third baseman and I thought was on the DL at last check. |

I like Bacon's steadiness with the leather, but there is no way that Pedroia isn't 10x better with the glove. Range is much more important than feilding %, IMO. |

Pedroia is vastly superior in every way. Surely you don't think errors = fielding prowess? Or are you one of those guys that see no issue just handing the SS hardware to Jeter year after year? |

That was a joke last year with Derek Jeter stealing the Gold Glove over Alexei Ramirez in the American League. |
