Post subject:  Draft and Intl Signing Cap

As some of you know, or some dont, MLB has created a cap on drafted players and international player signings.

The international player signings are a joke and from what i heard was a shot back from some teams that feel they got screwed on this draft cap.

So anyone think Jerry had anything to do with this?

Yeah I've heard something about this. I think the cap on the international signing is a good thing (though an international draft would be best) because the old system was a free for all where the team with the biggest bag of money wins. Teams like the Yankees, Braves , Red Sox and Rangers have cleaned up in international signings (especially in latin america) and a cap should even the playing field.

I don't agree with the draft cap but I understand why they did it. There were far too many players dropping in the draft and still getting huge signing bonuses. I think letting teams trade those picks to other teams who are willing to spend the money to sign those players would have been a better alternative. I'm very interested to see how the next draft shakes out.

And yes Reinsdorf had a lot to do with this.
