- for $2 Billion
- to a group that most notably includes Magic Johnson

Odd, but interesting.

McCourt might get out of L.A. alive after all.

Makes $840 Mill for Cubs+Wrigley+ 25% of CSN seem like a pretty nice deal.

Just 5 days ago, Forbes valued the Dodgers at $1.4 Billion. Magic & his guys paid $2.15 Billion.

I believe that McCourt was making a lot of noise about suing MLB regarding the way he was treated vs. the way their fellow owners treated Wilpon and suggesting that Jerry and the boys were discriminating because McCourt isn't Jewish. When the number worked out to be so huge, McCourt just said, "Fuck it. I'm taking this cash."

Interesting for a team that no one seems to care about out there. People show up in the 3rd
inning and leave by the 7th just to make an appearance from what I have heard. Are the
Yankees even valued at 2 Billion? I think they got ripped off. Sounds like they want to add to
payroll as well. I guess you have to at this point and make the team a consistent winner.

I think it went like this

Walter (new controlling owner): Look whats it gonna take to get this done?

McCourt's rep: 2 Billion (joking)

Magic: DONE!!!

Prospective pro team buyers: :x

Only in SELIGWORLD does the goof who robbed the franchise blind get to keep the parking lots....Of course he bought the team by leveraging parking lots in Boston because Murdoch wanted to sell the Dodgers quickly and Selig had to make his Fox TV partner happy.
Peter O'Malley has to be kicking himself and Walter O'Malley is spinning in his grave.

According to what I've read, this is the biggest sale of ANY pro sports team in North America. The one involving Magic Johnson's group buying the Dodgers for $2 billion. It's more than $845 million that the Ricketts Family paid to buy the Cubs, and according to CNBC's Darren Rovell, it would have been $1 billion had Wrigley Field been included in the sale.

Take a look at the TV deal the Padres- The Padres- just signed with Fox. Now imagine the cash when the Dodgers get their own regional network.

Being that Magic's group is a shopping center development group, I am just expecting a mall attached to the ravine soon.

I think the Padres are going to be the centerpiece of the upcoming FOX Sports...San Diego?

Yeah. I think there may be a hang-up with the Dodgers and their Fox contract and Time/Warner spinning off, but eventually they'll have their own station and it will be bigger than San Diego's.

McCourt bought the team, the stadium, and 240 acres around the stadium in 2004 for $371M. He is now the most financially successful owner in sports history.

No.

There are thirty of these assets in existence. The Dodger franchise is one of the best ones.

I can tell you one thing, you're not going to see a guy like McCourt getting one of them again.

I was led to believe the Rickettses did buy Wrigley Field outright. I don't see anything that says the Tribune still owns it.

Over $2 billion for a baseball team is abject insanity. What does this do to the value of the Yankees?

That's an interesting point, as Wilpon has gotten off awfully lightly for driving the Mets headlong into disaster, but I don't know that the MLB owners are overwhelmingly Jewish.

Really? There were at least three groups in play including a Chinese billionaire and the guy that owns the Grizzlies and I think one with Trump's son-in-law.

I'd say the Yankees are probably worth about $4 billion. There are various general partnerships owning shares. Some of them also share ownership of the TV network and concessionaire and the newer ones are just for the team itself.

Stan Kroenke was also making noise about buying the team, which would've meant the triumphant return of the Los Angeles Rams. I still think that's going to happen eventually, though.

CH, I don't know what to tell you about the Yankees. I don't think the late George Steinbrenner paid all that much when he bought the Yankees from CBS, circa 1973.

Steinbrenner paid a relative pittance, something like the Trib buying the Cubs for like $20 million.

$10 million!
