I'm just putting this here early since I know we'll use it for more than one week. He names Aceves his closer instead of Melancon. Aceves wants to be a starting pitcher and has been training to do so. Melancon has experience closing. Aceves doesn't even have 2:1 K:BB ratio. Melancon runs about a 5:2. Aceves went 114 innings last year with a 1.1 WHIP. Melancon had a 1.2 WHIP over 72 innings. Unless there's something that shows Aceves can't stretch to the rotation, then this smacks of something that BV is doing just to be different -- not because it makes sense. Honestly, he could learn a lesson from Ozzie. If you want to be known, then be known for your mouth but still do the right thing when it comes to managing the team. The sad thing is that even if this works, are you maybe passing up major benefits with Aceves becoming a starter down the line? I'll hang up and listen for my answer. |

The job should gave been given to Bard. He was being groomed for it and he appears to be their best option. Not sure if he'll be another CJ Wilson. That usually doesn't happen often. |

CJ was also a career minor league starter until he had UCL elbow surgery. He started pitching in relief because it was the only opening they had for him. So he was a starter who got forced into relief and then went back to starting. |

This Valentine is taking up the huge "Genius/Asshole" void left by Tony Larussa. |

The new Red Sox manager is as smarmy as he sounded when he joined Dan Shulman & Orel Hershiser in the MLB/ESPN booth on "Sunday Night Baseball" last year. Bobby Valentine's gonna age about 20 years as this season progresses if games like yesterday in Detroit are any indication. |

The Sawks won't even sniff the playoffs this year, w/ the Yanks, Rays, Angels & Rangers as possible WC teams. |

Colonel Angus wrote: The Sawks won't even sniff the playoffs this year, w/ the Yanks, Rays, Angels & Rangers as possible WC teams. I think you'll see both the Angels and Rangers in, since that division is so bad otherwise... one will win and the other will get a wild card. I struggle to see anyone but Detroit going through out of the Central -- maybe Kansas City or Cleveland, but that's about a 10% chance -- and I think Yankees take the East, with the Sox vs Rays for the final wildcard spot. I think the Red Sox and Rays have similar chances; I might even give the edge to the Sox, but maybe a 55%/45% type edge. It will probably come down to injuries like it always does. If either the Angels or Rangers go through some injuries, I could see both WCs out of the East even. |

He was booed mercilessly yesterday during the Red Sox collapse. Couldn't happen to a bigger jackass. |

He's angered his whole team, and not in a productive way. I'm starting to doubt he'll make it to the All-Star break. Blow one more 8 run lead to the Yankees and he's probably finished. |

I can not fathom why they hired him in the first place. |

Urlacher's missing neck wrote: I can not fathom why they hired him in the first place. UMN, neither do I. The only thing I could figure is the Red Sox management team wanted a marquee name who's not Terry Francona. It's the same Bobby Valentine who accused Cubs' SS Starlin Castro of not being in the game when he & ESPN worked a Cub game at Wrigley last season on "Sunday Night Baseball". |

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/bobby-vale ... alez-.html Quote: Boston Red Sox players blasted manager Bobby Valentine to owners John Henry and Larry Lucchino during a heated meeting called after a text message was sent by a group of frustrated players to the team and ownership in late July, three sources familiar with the meeting told Yahoo! Sports.
Issues that have inflamed players range far and wide. Leaving in Lester, a well-respected figure in the clubhouse, to get blasted for 11 runs and four home runs against Toronto soured players already beaten down by Valentine's managerial style. Valentine uttering "Nice inning, kid" to rookie third baseman Will Middlebrooks after he made a defensive blunder – an episode to which Valentine admitted on WEEI radio – only furthered the animus toward the 62-year-old, who is managing in the major leagues for the first time since 2002. Since spring training, players have chafed at Valentine's careless – and occasionally self-serving – interactions with the Boston media |

This story is all bullshit. If they are 5 games in first, nobody cares. When is the last time the Sawks finished fourth or fifth in the AL East. |

Some of them...absolutely but I can't believe guys like DP and Gonzalez are that bad and I don't think Youk was the guy Valentine portrayed him as. The Big Hoss Redneck hillbilly Texan pitching staff though....i completely agree with them being douches. They should have dumped Beckett before this season. I think Lackey and Lester would have retracted and fallen in line if their ring leader was gone. Great pitcher at times but definitely a juvenile shit stirrer as well. |
