Way too many good 1B for him to get in.

Plus he likely got into Kevin Mitchell's steroids

Only has 2176 hits.

Never had 200 hits in a season.

Never led league in HR's. Only hit above 30 once.

Only a 6 time All Star.

He's in the Hall of Very Good.

He raked against the Cubs in the 89 NLCS though. That still gives me nightmares.

It was a pot shot at the thread title. I loved Will's brief stop with my Cardinals. But, no, he not a HOFer.

Konerko should get in before a guy like Clark does.

I bet Rick voted for C.

Tell you what - ever since you posted that youtube Vlad Tribute Song, every time I see or hear his name that song starts playing in my head.

i have no idea what vlad's doing, but if i were him i'd go weasel my way into a backup gig with the marlins. ozzie's the type of manager who he could work with and if he gets his head out of his ass and focus on having one good at bat a game, shit, he used to be awesome in innings 7-9 back in his montreal halcyon days of legend and lore.

i think there's a lot of pride-swallowing going on with vlad right now. my dad told me that vlad was in a bar fight in miami before he got the minor league gig with the blue jays, to which i just kind of chuckled and retorted "well dude's lucky he didn't have a bat." vlad used to be a big deal $10-15mil franchise-type-player, and while his skills didn't quite fall off the table they have declined a noticeable amount... vlad isn't exactly what you'd call a mechanical player, so when he's used to doing things a certain way and then he'd have to change up his routine to accommodate, his default response is "fuck you, i'm vladimir guerrero" and keep doing things the way he always did them.

my gut feeling is when teams started offering him $1-3 mil for backup roles vlad's "fuck you i'm vladimir guerrero" mechanism popped up and when he was demanding $5mil+/year, teams told him and damon to take a walk, damon quickly scuttled to the indians whereas vlad kind of kicked back and got in a bar fight or two. he did ~15 games out in las vegas proved he could still hit and he's back to his "fuck you, i'm vladimir guerrero" stance.

so once he gets over that and realizes that making his life mission to have ~1 good at bat a game wiht MAYBE a half inning of defense in case of emergency, then i think he could be pretty damn useful. if the marlins are in it down the stretch and ozzie has the vladimir guerrero card to play, that's a nice ace to have up your sleeve. at any point in a tight game ozzie could go "fuck you, here's vladimir guerrero" and BLAM. the only holdup is that vlad's kind of still "fuck YOU, i'm vladimir guerrero" cuz his pride wants him to have a fulltime gig somewhere cuz on his past merits, sure, he deserves it... but it's a game of the now and future, so if vlad wants to kind of reinvent himself as a secret weapon to get past 450HR and brush up on some other numbers, it'd work out.... he has to ask himself if he wants to sit in his mansion and begin the rest of his life or hang out in baseball clubhouses for as long as he can.

I was looking up some Bob Brenly career stats when I decided to click on the Giants wiki page. From there, I clicked on Will Clark, only to discover THAT HE IS NOT IN THE HOF??

I never crunched any numbers, but when this guy was playing, many referred to him as a future HOF'er, and his effect on the game was more than noticeable. This guy was a pretty awesome baseball player.

Looking at the stats, though:

Batting average .303
Home runs 284
Runs batted in 1,205

Batting average .289
Home runs 204
Runs batted in 1,106

Pretty close actually

Clark was better than Grace, Grace never had a 20 HR season or 100 RBI.

Olerud was better than Grace too.

And none are HOF material.

Will Clark isn't a Hall of Famer but he towers above Mark Grace and Wally Joyner who are pretty much the same guy.

And here's where the juicing fucked up the game. Palmeiro and Clark played together in college. Clark was always considered the better player. The first ten years of their professional careers Clark was decidedly better. Then Palmeiro discovered the keys to life and put up stupid numbers. That's the kind of shit that should offend the baseball fan. And that isn't to say Clark didn't juice up too. But obviously something had a huge effect on Palmeiro as a player whereas Clark's career appears pretty normal.

how about fox's coverage of baseball on saturday nights aka "BASEBALL NIGHT IN AMERICA" where they treat you like a goddamn idiot who knows nothing about baseball because, gasp, fox makes their sports broadcasts target people who don't watch it as opposed to the people who do. they take those saps for granted.

you can tell there was a memo handed out to the broadcasters to say SELL THE GAME,

i heard dick stockton say circa the 4th inning "TONIGHT YOU'VE SEEN MORE GREAT PLAYS IN THIS GAME THAN YOU'LL USUALLY SEE IN A MONTH" -- that's a bit much, to use a british phrase.

I agree Grace,Clark and Olerud are not hof worthy and I think Clark juiced..it is offensive and one of the many reasons I hate Selig.
