Padres purchased the contract of RHP Kip Wells from Triple-A Tucson. Wells hasn't pitched in the majors since 2009.

The Padres will use Kip Wells, Jeff Suppan and Jason Marquis to start games this season. Don't they have ANYTHING in the minors better than this garbage?? What an enormous waste of time.

I would rather see Kip Wells pitch than Randy Wells.

They should trade for Matt Garza.

I think Cashner is just down building up innings so he can start again.

Do you blame Hoyer for the bad system or do you laud him for taking advantage of it by getting Rizzo for Cashner?

The fact that Kip Wells is starting again in the majors is proof positive that teams like the Padres are desperate. He's no immediate threat to Cy Young, that's for sure.

So he took advantage of his own mess? Either way you slice, the Padres system is bad.

But, I read somewhere that 4/5 of their 'Opening Day' starting rotation had been or was currently on the DL  . There are not a lot of teams that can overcome that.

I believe the 85 Cubs had that distinction.

I'm not entirely convinced that he's a threat to Cy Strezo either.

Kip Wells is a threat to Cyrus the Virus though.

What happened to black starting pitchers?

Seems a more precipitous drop in numbers than the everyday players (Havent checked on that, just guessing)

He'll need several shots of cortisone first.

That should do it.

Are you criticizing him for not rebuilding an entire farm system in 24 months?

If Cub fans can think that Theo will rebuild the Cubs farm system in 24 months why not?

Is there a contingent of Cub fans that think the farm system will be pumping out Grade A Theo prospects and contributors in 2014?

The cubs farm system just pumped out the first of many Theo picks today. 8)

That's cheating but I'd agree with that.

And it took him 5 years.

Yes. That's why it's so important to lose games this year.

People want to lose games this year to get good Major Leaguers in 2014? :?

Yes, at least if some on this board are representative of Cub fans.

Brick gon Brick.

Nobody thinks it is important to lose. Certainly not for draft picks, this isnt the NFL.

Major League Baseball isn't the NFL or NBA for that matter. Just because a team gets a high draft pick doesn't mean squat. It's a real crapshoot in MLB unlike other sports. I think more times than not, lower round picks in MLB pan out better than #1 picks.
