Carlos Lee has been traded to the Marlins for third baseman Matt Dominguez and left-hander Rob Rasmussen.

Not sure how much of Lee's salary the Astros are picking up but it shouldn't be much because those are 2 pretty good prospects. Dominguez is a gold glove caliber 3rd baseman but his offensive game hasn't developed. Rasmussen is a smallish lefty (5'10 160) with pretty good stuff who projects as a back of the rotation starter or middle reliever. C Lee is reunited with Ozzie. The circus just got a new attraction.

I take comfort in knowing there is a dumber organization in MLB than mine.

Houston is paying all the salary less the ML minimum...

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that Carlos Lee is super fucking pissed right now. He could have gone to the Dodgers but declined the trade. Not the first time he had turned down a trade since he was an Astro because he didn't want to leave Texas. Apparently, he had a 14 team no-trade list. My guess is he never thought the Marlins would ever trade for his contract so he kept them off the list.

Score one for the Astros.

Thats hilarious if that really happened, but I dont think he had a list. He had the right to veto ANY trade as a 5-10 guy. I think he wanted to go to Miami.

I thought Ozzie Guillen didn't like guys that went into second as if their wives were turning the double play. Times change, I guess.

That's how I remember it with Guillen benching him during the season and hoping to get him off his team. Marlins are below .500 and making stupid trades.

It's not a stupid trade. It's an upgrade over what they were getting production wise from 1B. Similar to the Youklis trade.

Garza is pitching like he wants to stay a Cub.

Ozzie has a history with the guy. Lee has a history of extreme self interest. Ozzie has a history of "throwing players under the bus" to cover his own rear when things are going bad. I suppose people change. I wouldn't expect it from either of these guys.

The good thing about Garza is that you don't have to trade him. He is controlled for two years so there is no reason to sell cheap.

Blue Jays acquired LHP J.A. Happ, RHPs Brandon Lyon and David Carpenter from the Astros in exchange for OF Ben Francisco, RHPs Francisco Cordero, Asher Wojciechowski and Joe Musgrove, LHP David Rollins and C Carlos Perez.

Holy smokes that's a lot of man-goo. The Astros did good to rid themselves of Happ and Lyon but I don't understand taking back Ben Francisco and Cordero. Asher Wojciechowski is the most promising player in the deal.

Rockies acquired LHP Jonathan Sanchez from the Royals in exchange for RHP Jeremy Guthrie.

The Jonathan Sanchez for Melky Cabrera trade couldn't have worked out worse for the Royals. Jeremy Guthrie. Blah

Jeremy Guthrie...Didn't the Rockies get him from the Orioles for Jason Hammel in the offseason? I think Hammel's on the DL now with a knee injury...

They've been looking for a 2B in Detroit. They've had Ramon Santiago, Ryan Raburn & Danny Worth playing that position for the Tigers so far, and the results haven't been productive.

That deal means one thing. The Marlins have waved the white flag on their disappointing season. Jacob Turner, who won his ML debut vs. the struggling White Sox yesterday, is Miami-bound, says FOXSports.com's Jon Paul Morosi.

This deal includes Jacob Turner. Wow.

So.....would that have been a good haul for Garza and Barney? It's going to be interesting where Garza ends up, if healthy.

Post subject:  Re: 2012 Trade deadline

I don't know what the hub-bub is about Jacob Turner. He's a nice pitcher but definitely not a top of the rotation guy. He has a good sinker but not a power sinker. He doesn't have very good secondary stuff and when the sinker isn't sinking he's going to get blasted. He's still young so maybe he can still develop a pitch or two but you would like him to already have that at this stage of the game.

Sanchez is a nice pitcher too but a little inconsistent plus he's a free agent after the season. Infante will help the the Tigers the most. He'll greatly improve the infield defense and should get on base enough for Miggy and Prince to drive him in.

Detroit seems to rush all their prospects. Not sure if that is correlated to the owner being older than Methusaleh, wants to win now. also the fact they seem to sign another highly paid DH every winter

I actually think Garza and Sanchez are pretty comparable (on the mound), so one would think Garza's extra year of control would be more valuable. I don't consider Barney or Infante factors in the trade really, but Barney is controlled for a few years as well.

This would be a real nice look, if Ichiro Suzuki was not one hundred thirty seven (137) years old. I think, however, that Japanese people live longer because of their diet of rice and fish, so maybe he is in his prime.

That was a bit of a surprise seeing Ichiro in a Yankee uniform, and still in Seattle's Safeco Field last night.
