I don't really intend for this to be a Cubs/Sox pissing match, but I'm just curious as to what your thoughts are. Take the big picture out of it as well. I know the Cubs are rebuilding and the Sox aren't necessarily rebuilding, but with a new manager they needed to get a new identity. I also know there are positives are negatives for both teams next year, but take that out of it as well. I'm just talking a fishbowl of the 2012 season. So...as a fan, what type of season is worse? A season where its bad bad bad pretty much right from the get go, or a season where your team is in first place for about half the season only to just tank everything right at the very end? |

I'd much rather be watching my team play meaningful games at the end of the season, so I voted for the first option. |

Easy. 100 loss season. This season has kept me interested all the way to football season. Thats all i ask for at a minimum from the Sox. I have a different view of it than you do though because baseball isn't as high my sports list obviously. |

I can see it both ways. It is fun to watch you team play some games that mean something at the end of the season, but then the disappointment of getting your hopes up for a playoff run is pretty bad. We all knew the Cubs were going to suck this year, so there was no one getting their hopes up. Both situations suck. |

Sox. I've had little to no emotional investment at any point this season for the Cubs. When you have extraoridnarily low expectations and even those aren't met, you don't get too disappointed I know the Sox had low expectations, obviously not Cubs level, but to be seemingly in control and then have the wheels come blowing off, it's got to be rough. |

The Sox was worse...if you are going to cut off a finger tip, you want it quick n painless. one chop...not a slow dull cut with a butter knife. |

I voted Sox. Because the Sox meltdown reminds me of the Cubs meltdown of 2004. That year almost hurt as much as 2003. I clocked out on the Cubs this year sometime around June. I tune in every now and then for a Castro or Rizzo at-bat. |

I have to say a late season meltdown as well. As much as losing in 2008 sucked, those last 3 games culminating with the blackout game was awesome. I was there and it felt like they had won the WS all over again. This last week has been pretty brutal. Tampa and Anaheim are good teams, but no way you should be losing series to the Royals and Indians. A swing of being up up 3 games with 13 or 14 to play, to being 2 back with 6 to play has just been heart wrenching to watch. Baseball is my #1 sport. I do love the Bears but I could sit and watch a Marlins Rockies game in the middle of August and enjoy it. Its hard to believe with all of these loses strung about, that the Sox have a chance at actually still winning this thing. |

There are no great teams this year except Washington and they shut down their top pitcher. |

Both seasons have been bad given how the Sox are finishing but I agree with the consensus and voted Sox. It's never fun to see a team go from 3 games up with 16 to play to 2 back with 6 left. And to see guys like Paulie and AJ pretty much disappear has to be especially frustrating for Sox fans. Dunn at least had his moments and I give Peavy credit for pitching good ball last night. As for the Cubs, they better damn well execute their gameplan because this season has seen some of the worst starting pitching ever. If it wasn't for legit young talent like Rizzo, Shark, Castro, Barney and maybe Castillo plus seemingly real prospects like Baez, Soler and Almora, there would be no hope at all. I also given credit to Kenny for going for it once again which is rare in this era of political correctness. |

In another thread, it was suggested that as a Saints fan I should be placed on suicide watch. This Sox season is considerably worse (than the Saints start) for me. As for the question at hand, I think the Cubs season is worse. Cub fans were told that this season didn't matter. That the next 2-3 seasons don't matter. That the new President has the beginnings of a good long term plan and that fans should keep the faith. Again. Stay the 104 year course, but it's "different this time". While watching the Sox season go down the drain is misery, Cub fans have essentially been told not to care about the product on the field, but to keep coming out with their $$$ like lemmings. At some point I'd have to consider that my "team" doesn't respect me, nor should I continue to care about them either. This would be that season(if it weren't already). |

A 100 loss season doesn't really hurt as much. You pretty much write the team off in May, so there's no emotional attachment whatsoever. Late season collapses blow. |

Both suck. 100 loss seasons pretty much desensitizes you from the start so by the end you are completely numb and emotionless to the situation In the Sox case they were atop the division all year. A few skids here and there but always found a way to right the ship. They were up what? 3 or 4 games just a week or two ago and they decide to start playing bad when it really counted snd the Tigers got hot. This is the kind of shit that can drive a fan to have both physical and mental health issues |

cubs season is worse. I would much rather have a cheering interest for a sport that I really like, and for a team that I really cheer for. I would prefer a competetive chance...a winning team...and yes, I understand the sox flaws & some of the fan frustration, but there is / was still a chance that they get into the playoff's and once there....who the fuck knows??? Yes...the disappointment can be greater...the frustration bigger...the shit you take from other fanbases can "sting" a little more.....but in the end, I want my team that I cheer for to compete and give themselves a chance. The Cubs season was over in May. I saved/recouped a bunch of dough by dumping tickets and not going to games....but I lost a baseball season. |

What would be worse? Losing a 3 - 0 playoff series lead in 2004 to the Boston Red Sox, or losing one hundred (100) games that year? Obviously, a late season collapse is far worse. |

The question is moot since the Sox will win the division. |

The Cubs season was worse because I checked out early and didnt get to enjoy the season at all. The Sox season is more disappointing because they were in control of their division and brokedown. I would personally rather have the 100 loss season. I can't take anymore collapses from the Cubs, too much time and energy gets devoted during the course of a baseball season. |
