One game playoff's in baseball are bs. Either you are a playoff team and treat the team as such or you aren't and should be left out of the tournament entirely. Give them a three game series played over the weekend and start the rest of the LDS on Tuesday.

Bob Costas, Dan Patrick's teammate on NBC Sports' "Football Night in America" before "Sunday Night Football" and noted baseball enthusiast with MLB Network, agrees with you regarding the one-game MLB Wildcard Playoff. A few days ago, Costas offered a suggestion regarding what MLB should do with the season & how future playoffs should be planned.

Agreed.... How pissed are the Orioles that the one season they finally put it all together they may get bounced if one game doesnt go their way? It is a load of shit.

Agreed.

And Id like to point out that Selig's whole idea was to replicate last year's crazy last day and currently there is ONE possible race that will likely be over tonight and the last day will be completely meaningless.

I agree. This new wild card setup is disgraceful rubbish. What else will Bud Selig do to lower this beautiful game? Is it not enough that an exhibition game determines home field advantage in the World Series?

Speaking of which, did anyone see the Atlanta Braves' massive celebration after "qualifying" for this shameful wild card fiasco? Talk about a franchise with low expectations. All while wearing hats that say "Playoffs." You know what those hats should say? "DID NOT WIN."

For the record, I am vehemently opposed to any wild card at all. One must either win one's division, or go home.

It's one thing for MLB to have 2 Wildcards in each league. The way they have it setup sucks.

This one game wild card playoff is ridiculous. Selig is a clown. If it wasn't for Gary Betteman about to lose another season of hockey and Goodell putting the safety of players at risk by using scab officials and Stern having a team controlled by other owners that is vetoing trades he would be the worst comissioner going right now.

It fucks up the rotations and I think I remember reading something about a scenario in which the winning wildcard team gets home field against whatever division winner they face...

It should be best of three on consecutive days with the 3rd game (if req.) being a double header. team with the better record gets home field all three games. all star game winner is the tie breaker if the records are the same...

Maybe Baltimore and Oakland will tie. Then they would have had to have played a game 163 anyway.

They're not in the same division.

What's your point? Cubs and Giants played a 163 for the Wild Card.

I stand corrected, but there are 2 Wildcards now.

Right, so the one game between what are now the two wild cards would in another year be the tiebreak for one wild card.

Whatever. All I care about is that the A's win.

Yes because Grandmaster B forced this process after the schedules were made. Whoever plays the WC winner will be rewarded with the first two games on the road

Fans like a game 163 to get into the playoffs because it is exciting. A one game "series" in the playoffs is not the same. As seen by Atlanta these are both playoff teams but there is only one game. They will change the format next year. They wedged this in right before this season started and just threw it together during one of buds keg parties. There was a lot of complaining even in April so this wont stand. Remember when they started the wild card there was a totàl imbalance against division winners in a five game set. They fixed that pretty quickly.

Neither of those other two have anything on Bud Lite. Goodell came close this past week, but he got the real refs back. Bud would've replaced the replacement refs w/ senior citizens.

I think that's the point. It's more fair than putting the Wild Card on even ground with the Division Winners the way it's been done before. Especially when it came down to a close race and they were both going and neither team really cared who won. In fact, at times the loser might have had the better draw. I agree that a best of three would be better though.

And I'm not sure why people are so bothered by the All-Star game deciding home field advantage in the WS. Just pretend that it was random like in the past if it bothers you so much. What's the difference? It's never been decided by merit.

This much is certain. The Cardinals & Braves will play in the NL Wildcard Friday in Atlanta, while the Tigers host Game 1 of their ALDS matchup Saturday in Detroit. That's a given. The other AL Wildcard game, not to mention a potential tiebreaker & quite possibly even home field advantage for that matter will be determined today.

OK... so they still have home field but have to start on the road. WHat a crock of shit.
