The Diamondbacks have acquired Heath Bell, infielder Cliff Pennington, and cash considerations from the Marlins in a three-team deal with the Athletics. Miami will receive minor league infielder Yordy Cabrera from the A's and Oakland will get outfielder Chris Young and $500K from Arizona.

It's started already. Billy Beane didn't waste anytime to acquire yet another outfielder. Young is owed $8.5M in '13 and a club option for $11M in '14 with a $1.5M buyout. Young batted just .231/.311/.434 with 14 home runs and 41 RBI in 101 games

Miami wil pick up $8M of Bell's remaining $21M and will serve as a set-up man for JJ Putz. Pennington is a good glove man but can't hit a lick.

Yordy Cabrera was a 2nd round pick in 2010. He hit .232/.293/.332 in 60 games at High A.

Mike Aviles has been traded to the Blue Jays in exchange for manager John Farrell.
The Red Sox will get a player or cash along with Farrell, who has already agreed to a three-year contract.

The player going back to the Red Sox is believed to be Adam Lind. Looks like the Red Sox learned a lesson after being fleeced by the Cubs for Theo. Aviles is a useful utility player but he's 32 years old and doen't have many years of productivity left. Lind has been maddenly inconsistent but at 29 a change of scenery could help him put together a couple good seasons. John Farrell was 154-170 in 2 seasons with the Blue Jays.

Trading for managers is weird and has happened 2 years in a row now.

I don't think it's all that weird, UMN. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Mariners get CF Randy Wynn in the late '90s when manager Lou Piniella filled out the lineup card with the Rays to be closer to his home in Tampa?

Apparently outfielders with platoon issues are the new market inefficiency in OAK

That seems like a steal for the Red Sox. I think Lind is better than Aviles and they got the manager they wanted.

The player coming back to the Red Sox ended up being journeyman reliever David Carpenter. He throws hard but that's about it. Still a good move for the Red Sox. Farrell was very respected when he served as the Red Sox pitching coach and will be a breath of fresh air after the Valentine disaster.

The Braves exercised their team option on Maholm today as expected. He will not be a free agent until after next year.

Because he is 6ft8 and you can't teach size in the post

Dodgers signed RHP Brandon League to a three-year, $22.5 million contract with a vesting option for 2016.

Well it looks like the Dodgers haven't stopped spending stupid money. I like League but this is just craziness for someone who will most likely be an 8th inning guy.

Royals declined RHP Joakim Soria's $8 million option for 2013.

$8M is a lot for a closer coming off Tommy John surgery but Soria is the best pitcher on a pitching starved team. Soria will be a very popular target this off season.

Angels acquired LHP Brandon Sisk from the Royals for RHP Ervin Santana.

The Angels are also paying a little of Santana's $13M salary. Hopefully for the Royals sake Santana works out better than Jonathan Sanchez did.

I hope no one bought a Blue Jays Mike Aviles jersey. He was traded to them for their manager a few weeks ago and now the Blue Jays have dealt him to the Indians for RHP Esmil Rogers.

Now he'll get to pitch in the building named after him.

Good info. We've been correct on Dempster money for the most part. Not much third base help for either side of town. I really like the contract years and dollars for all of the mid level SP's. McCarthy, Blanton, Marcum, Haren, and Baker.

Remember when Angel Pagan was run out of town on the Northside? Now they think he will get $10M/yr.

Would anyone be dumb enough to sign Hamilton without some type of protection in case he goes off the deep end again?

The Blue Jays have acquired Jose Reyes, Josh Johnson, Mark Buerhle, Emilio Bonifacio and John Buck from the Marlins in exchange for Yunel Escobar, Adeiny Hechavarria, Henderson Alvarez, Jake Marisnick and Justin Nicolino.

I don't even know where to start but MLB has to take the Marlins frachise away from that baffoon.

An absolute joke of a franchise.

Although they've won 2 World Series titles in their short history.

So maybe they're secretly geniuses.
