Both had to clean house because of horrible contracts accrued by their previous management. They are in similar positions. They have similar resources. Who will win a WS first?

They didn't HAVE to clean house in Boston he left them with a very talented roster. MVP types at 3 positions and good players all over the diamond

There were a couple real bad deals but they didn't cripple the franchise.

Cubs will win a world series first though

Then why were they so bad before the trade? They were in last place weren't they?

Do teams with talent ever find themselves in bad positions early?

Of course. Look at Green Bay right now. But Boston's management clearly felt like they had to do that trade, and they were widely applauded for doing so. That makes me think Theo left them in bad shape.

Ok.

You have some strange baseball thoughts.

How so? People that know much more about baseball than I do said that was a great trade. Almost nobody said it was a bad trade. And it was a house-cleaning trade. My logical conclusion from that is that Boston had to clean house. What's your confusion?

What's your confusion? Just because they moved some talent doesn't mean that Theo left them in a bad position at all. There was talent all over that team. The were certainly capable of competing, they just weren't for whatever reason. That's not the GM leaving them in a bad spot. That's partly a new GM putting his stamp on a team he's taking over. Not unusual at all.

So was it a good trade or bad? You're saying it was unnecessary. I haven't heard that much. Everybody seemed to agree that they had a ton of bad money that was hindering them from making moves. Isn't that exactly what you're mad at Hendry for?

They had a couple MVP's and several all stars. that's nothing compared to the shit that Hendry pulled. He left them with one questionable all star at short and nothing else anywhere at all, except MAYBE Barney who somehow played, in my opinion, way over his head this season. JORR might say Soriano played up to his contract this year too... well, that's one year out of 5.

I'm not saying Hendry's Cub tenure rivaled Theo's time in Boston. There's no question Theo did much better. But the teams weren't all that different this season. He didn't leave them in great shape. Having several all stars apparently didn't mean much since they were in last place. Maybe they just can't play anymore. I don't know much about what went wrong in Boston. All I know is that they were terrible this year and felt like they had to trade away $250 million of contracts that Theo left them with.

Theo didn't hire Bobby Fucking Valentine at least. That was a terrible move.

Stick to your guns Favre. He did leave them with some horrendous contracts that would have been an impediment to future success if Cherrington hadn't been able to package some good with lots of bad to a team with new owners and new cash who was looking to make a name.
