Oh, so you don't mean protecting them from getting AIDS?

No, protecting them from getting hit in the head like Brandon McCarthy.

Absolutely not! You release the ball n expect a line drive back to the mound...work on your delivery if it is a problem.

They said on ESPN that a pitcher has 1/3 of a second to react to a ball being hit back at him.

Maybe if people weren't so fat, they would be able to react quicker.

Apparently it is not because they've had a handful of pitchers recently being hit in the head or face with the ball.

What is MLB to do about it?

These kind of questions are so dumb.

Every pitcher that has ever played the game knows the risk of being that close to the batter.

For the love of god we have a world of pussies.

How about let them wear a batting helmet when they're in the field?

Why don't we put them all in a full coat of armor

I think that could hurt their delivery.

Too distracting for the batter.

How about all MLB pitchers have to spend at least one year on the Cardinals roster. If they survive that, they are probably invincible.

Wear a goalie helmet like slow pitch softball players have to do.

Judging by previous threads I am not surprised that Mini Ditka wants to stop men from taking balls to the face.

"They" said on ESPN that LeBron James is the greatest quarterback of all time.

The only realistic thing they could do without changing the game would be to mandate the use of ash bats (assuming the newer maple bats are harder and the balls comes back quicker). My biggest fear as a parent of a little leauger is that he'll get clocked on the mound by someone using one of the carbon/composite/titanium/etc bats. I wouldn't mind if they outlawed all metal bats in youth baseball.
