since 2B is not a power position, I am changing the dates so we can get the top 2 in. from 1920-1990, approximately:

This is a hell of a list.

1. Hornsby
2. Collins
3. Morgan
4. Robinson (tie)
4. Gehringer (tie)
6. Ryno
7. Gordon
8. Frisch
9. Lou
10. Fox (or several others could go here)

Actually looking at the WAR numbers, even excluding post 2001 Alomar it's closer than I thought.

If you go by their 5 best years, Sandberg was better.

Id say its a toss up

I'm biased here. Althought I have no love for the Cubbies, I did reluctantly come to love the way Sandberg played. Played hard, kept his mouth shut, wasn't a showboat, did all the little things right.

Sandberg's career was really hampered by the broken wrist - he had a couple more HOF years left in him before that happened.

1960 WS MVP for the Yankees. Only WS MVP to ever come from the losing team.
