You tag the runner when you can see the dirt in your peripheral vision. Don't these kids get taught proper pitcher fielding? It's on him! |

Partially torn UCL. Hopefully it won't require TJ and he can rehab it. If he does need TJ we'll see him in 2015. Maybe. |

You can strengthen some of the muscles around it a little to maybe alleviate some stress and on it but its going to blow and there is no stopping it. Just let him got out there and do his thing and when it snaps it snaps. The sooner the better so he can get started on his rehab. |

It depends what type of tear it is. If it's torn off the bone then it will require TJ but if it's torn in the middle of the ligament it can be rehabed. They will find out when the swelling goes down in a weel or two. |

As long as they keep him on an innings count and shut him down before the playoffs he should be fine. |

I know you're joking about Strasburg but the Mets did shut down Harvey last season. It just goes to show there is no way to prevent an injury to a pitcher. The best thing to do is to be consistent. Throw him every 5th day and let him throw around the same number of pitches every time out. Resting a pitcher could cause more harm than good. |

I don't get Mets games on ever so I have never seen the kid pitch yet and I don't know what his arsenal is. The best thing you can do IMO is bust your ass during the 4 days in between starts doing exactly what the medical staff wants you to do. A lot of guys are totally on their own program because "its what got them there" until they blow up and have major surgery and then they get with the program and become workout warriors. Its not like they are doing heavy weights its just a lot of minor maintenance moves with really light weight. That helps a lot with the shoulder issues but as for the elbows I think as you get older you need to rely less on your heavy breaking stuff because that really really stresses the elbow. If you are a SP with a heavy curve or slider then its probably going to blow at some point. |

The way the Astros are using Jordan Lyles is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. The Atros have moved to a 6-man rotation and for reasons only known to them they are using their starters to pitch between outings. Lyles picked up the save last night after pitching on TWO DAYS REST. What the fuck are these dumbasses thinking?? They are putting a 22 yr old pitcher at risk and for what?? To save their 44 win of the season?? It makes absolutely no sense. |

Dumbasses, sure though. |

There isn't a way to prevent an injury but a team can put a pitcher in greater risk of injury. Throwing him 6-7 innings and 100 pitches then bring him back 2 days later to throw 10 pitches is a prime example of putting a pitcher at risk. It's stupid and careless for any team let alone one about to lose 100 games. |

Is there anything that backs that up compared to a side session, or is that just something people in baseball assume without anything backing it up, like injury prevention? |

I don't know but common sense has to play a part somewhere. I mean did they really have to bring in Lyles to face one hitter?? The risk/reward is a little out of whack. Yeah we won our 44th game of the season!!!! Oh we lost our 22 year old starter for the next year and a half. |

Well when he blows his arm out or has a lifetime of general arm problems no matter what they do, he has experience closing so he can come back as Kerry Wood. |

They throw a simulated game/side session 2 days after starting anyways. The scenery and circumstances are different but its basically the same thing. Doing it in the game just inconveniences everyone behind the scenes as he now has to do his shoulder program later....his treatment later....his running later. They like to get that shit out of the way before the game...not after. |

Matt Harvey has a partial tear of the UCL in his elbow but will try to rehab the injury for now. Harvey will be on a 6-8 week throwing program to see how his right elbow responds. I hope it works out for him and he's able to be ready for the start of next season. |

I think he is out for 2014.. you may see him throwing at the end of the year. He can pitch for a while with a partial tear... it is going to tear eventually. |

Not my arm, but seems like a bad idea. Get it fixed. Otherwise you risk tearing it anyway, pitching with a sore arm which doesn't help anyone, and other injury due to altered mechanics. |

The ligament must not be torn from the bone. If it were he would need to have surgery because the ligamnet can't reattach itself. If it's still attached the ligamnet can heal and the area around it can be strengthened to help prevent another injury. Of course there are no guarantees but rehabbing is always a better alternative to surgery. |
