Even if Boras is an asshat, he's spot on...

I disagree. This is an obvious attempt by Boras to return fire, but he misses badly. I doubt anyone who holds Jay Z in esteem as a pillar of pop and/or rap urban culture is going to care what hat Jay Z is wearing. It's all about style, the expression of roots (NY), and cultural currency - none of which Boras possesses vis-a-vis Jay Z. Boras might be right in a practical logic sense, but there's a different kind of logic involved when it comes to pop/urban celebrity culture wherein supposed contradictions between Jay Z's hat and his profession don't really mean that much.

But the whole article pertains to jay-z as an agent (or at least as the front for an angecy)

Right, and what I'm trying to argue is that even as an agent, who is trying to attract young athletes to his stable, these sorts of contradictions do not apply given his standing in the pop/urban culture environment. It's an unorthodox way of doing business, but I don't think it will hurt him.

I edited my first post to expand the following sentence, but it looks like my edit went through only after you responded:

While I dont think Boras should have said anything. There is a simple reason Boras has 75 of MLB highest paid players. He gets the most money.

Jay Z has a ton of pressure on him with Cano. Are the yankees going to pay to keep him, or actually do some sort of rebuilding, thus not caring if he stays or goes? Angels, Blue Jays, not spending again. Dodgers?

Of course, I think Cano gets a $15 M, 5 year deal if he represented himself, so getting him $80 mill or $100 mill, shouldnt be that big of a deal.

Steve Zucker, former McMahon agent, made the same JAy Z move. He went for the high priced glamour players coming out of college in the NFL. Then he had 4 top 20 picks, one of them was Deion. Who got so pissed at his draft position on draft day, went screaming down hubbard road in Winnetka. Was one of the funniest scenes ever.

Well after that Zucker, focused on big veteran linemen.

Jay Z has a long way to go to get the track record Boras does.

You hire your agent for one reason. To get you the best deal possible and Boras does that.

If you want to hire an agent that hooks you up at clubs and you hang with rappers and hoes, Jay Z is your guy.

Jay Z will be able to lure some athletes that are drawn to him for cultural or hip reasons I suppose? Should be easy. Clearly, what Boras was referring to was sitting across from Reinsdorf or Steeinbrenner types trying to maximize and get a winning deal you think that Yankees cap is gonna help?

Well schmoozing with "rappers and hoes," as you put it, isn't necessarily something you can only get with Jay Z. That sort of benefit is widespread for those who would be impressed by those kind of connections. Boras obviously has a good track record, but it seems Jay Z's entire endeavor into the business is predicated on selling himself to prospective clients. They'll have a chance to make a name for themselves in terms of securing fat contracts from teams for their clients, but fair or not the mere presence of someone like Jay Z on your doorstep is going to pique the interest of several 16-19 year olds in ways that established agents like Boras and others simply cannot match. That's why I thought Boras' critique is irrelevant.

I doubt Jay Z or whoever would dress himself that way when it comes to a business meeting, but even if we assume he's wearing NYY regalia, no I do not think it would hurt him. When you get to that stage of a deal, it's all about strategic negotiating. What would hurt him is a lack of expertise in setting the market his clients, knowing the market landscape, etc, and not his dress.

"Jay-Z, Sports Agent" is just so funny. It's like "Neil Young, Car Salesman."
